drowning wouldn't even he close to as bad as burning alive

Ive almost drowned twice, and it waant that bad because the shock takes over. But just spilling hot water on my skin has me in pain for like an hour. Now Imagine your entire body being shredded apart by this heat

Just watched a movie about the assassination of Heydrich in the Czech during ww2... those involved carried cyanide tablets so if they were about to be captured they would pop the tablet to kill themselves because the Nazis would torture them to death and squeeze every bit of info they could out of them.

I think burning alive is probably the highest possible pain you can feel, I mean your nerves are literally getting scorched

Drowning also feels very very bad (almost drowned a few times), but you would pass out pretty quick

Some diseases are extremely painful without painkillers, thank god for modern medicine. Back in the day before alcohol and other pain reducing substances were invented I assume people just offed themselves from the pain if they got exceptionally sick

Definitely some kind of slow death in a hospital. For instance, having necrotizing fascitis aka flesh eating disease. Both legs rotting away, have to undergo repeated surgeries to remove progressing dead muscles, skin. Then having to undergo daily change of dressing where they strip the dried gauze off your rotting legs, to reveal your quads which are now purple and black and decaying

anything involving suffocation is not that bad. Its usually painless except for burning in the lungs, but you eventually pass out and THEN die. Most of the fear of suffocation/drowning is the panic, but there is no pain in panic its just induced stress.

The top 2 definitely have to be burned alive (getting trapped in a burning car after a wreck that catches fire) and then followed by eaten alive by an animal (bear/wolves attack while hiking/camping).

scaphism is pretty bad, but the op said the most painful way to die as a westerner in the 21st century.

Afaik people die from breathing the carbon monoxide, instead of the actual flames.

You get in a car accident, the bent metal of the car prevents you from escaping and leaking gasoline/oil starts a fire. Id say its pretty easy to "die in a fire"

I mean, easier than being subjected to a brazen bull or scaphism, lol.
