Isn't it mad how the internet doesn't actually make us more intelligent

We have all the great minds of the last 50 years or so at our finger tips. We can go on Youtube right now and listen to some of the great thinkers and intellectuals and yet, it actually doesn't make us any smarter. It's actually fascinating on what the limits of intelligence are, if not a bit depressing. Wouldn't it be amazing if we were able to absorb this information and then synthesize it in such a way that it reflected our own personality and world view. I often find myself just parroting people that I listen to rather than incorporating their views into my framework for interpreting the world.

Nonetheless, I am currently listening to Robert Fisk, a great award winning real old school journalist who is a conflict zone/middle eastern reporter.

I use the internet to my advantage. It's a wealth of knowledge. I try and learn something new every day.
*Look at reflection in car window and flex every time crew*
*Use half the roll to wipe after a poo crew*
*Fart in the gym and blame rotten smell on faulty ventilation crew*
*Fart at home and blame it on the dog crew*
*Watch neutron-star density poop mock me as water flushes around it and it stays put crew*
*Drive 2 minutes in the summer and back of shirt gets completely wet crew*
*Coffee black as midnight on a moonless night crew*
*Fat shame my cat on a daily basis crew*

i'm 50 years old. i wish i had the internet when i was growing up - access and exposure to all of that information and people. it does make you smarter. i've accomplished a lot in my life, but i think i could have accomplished more if the internet had existed in my youth.

Interesting man. Definitely though. I wasted my 20's tbh, not in any sort of overly dramatic way but I wish when I was 20 I had made a more concerted effort to actually use the internet to open up my world. I used to watch that Japanese physicist that the Discovery used to always wheel out to popularize science haha but other than that, didn't engage enough. I spent too long engaged in rubbish like stupid Vice articles and reading Cracked and worse, getting caught up in *******/redpill conversations.

like any technology. Language, books, instruments, atom boms, they can help us or hurt us depending on how we use them.
