Front squats are hard af.

Feels like quads are burning and im gasping for air after 5 sets of front squats

I can do 185 for 10-12 reps so prolly around 245 is my max and I don't do back squats

My PR front squat is 415 I think and my best squat is 570.

I never pushed the front squat quite as consistently as the squat though.

For reps, I think the best front squat was probably only like 315x3 or something. For squat, the best I ever did for reps was like 465x5 and maybe 500x3.

OP would you rather have great numbers or great leg development(quads, calves, hamstrings)?

I just started doing back squats again, but had been doing front squats for a few months again. I broke my knee a little over a year ago.....for the 2nd time in 10 years. Lower back was kinda effed from over compensation....thats getting better now, working on form and such vs weight.

Monday, front squatted 225 for 3 sets of 5....not even going near failure.
Yesterday, back squatted 245 for 5x5, going literally ass to grass....same, not even going near failure.

Nothing impressive, but steadily increasing again....I'm more concerned with strength and confidence in my knee again and reduce pain in my lower back/hip vs being able to go heavy.

Hm I actually power cleaned quite frequently.

I dont think its that disproportionate though?

385lb FS = about 365 full clean if efficient and good technique = around 315lb power clean... no?

Edit: if you could clean and jerk 400lb with a 405lb FS, I think you are an anomaly, and that's pretty dang efficient.

That said, my FS is around 350lb now cause I stopped squatting often, but I can still power clean around 3 plates.

Haven't back squatted in a few months, but last 1rm I did was 365.

Just started doing front squats again, hit 245×3 yesterday with 1-2 in the tank, and 210×9 which was pretty much to failure.

Highest I've ever done on back squats was 455, front squat was 315. Doubt I could do either now. Glute tear so I dont do heavy compound leg work anymore.

PR front was 225 x 1
PR Safety Squat Bar parallel box was 265 x 20

PR atm=nothing, just back from herniated disc

HS bench was 305, now nothing
PR deadlift was 340, now nothing
OHP 140, now nothing

lol, but I can walk.

PR walking in 24 hrs is 52 miles, which is not a joke.

Yeah man I went full retard for a second and saw that as a full clean. I will say this, I found it way more beneficial and with more carry over doing the full movements, I learned it pretty quick to catch low as a bigger dude and I thought that helped, idk if you trained the full movements as much but that was my takeaway

Theres a certain level of strengths youll always have on deck even not training the movement if you still somewhat workout.

I haven’t legitimately squatted in over 2.5 years, often dont train legs anymore due to knee and back issues that flare up when training “heavy”(ie 275 on backsquat) but I can still clean 315 if asked to. That chit is mental and does not go away, you either have it or you dont

stopped back squatting since an injury 2018 only really done front squats since. 315 was the max in school, granted I was 50 lbs lighter and 4 inches shorter.

Got into a good routine lately and i'm repping 225 on FS.

I want to start back squats up again today, but I think I'll go extremely light and all the way down and just add 10 lbs a week. Something like 145 or 155 for 6 or 8.

Too fukn relatable bro Lol. Exactly the same reason why I stopped squatting so often (knee issue). And its funny you mention 275lb as the weight that starts to stress ur knee cause that's exactly the same weight I start feeling it in my knees. Fml.

I'm small and weak. My back squat is 205 and my front squat is 145 for 3... haven't tried 1RM.

Back squatted 605 and front squatted 545 in college @ 287 lbs. May have been able to push the back squat more later in my career had it not been for a lower back injury that caused me to bitch out going heavy on back squats. Front squats didn't bother it though so I went phuckin' ham on those.

Great legs development of course. I've always trained for hypertrophy mostly and super rarely went under 6 reps for any exercise. I reckon if I trained for strength my number would shoot up, but not sure if I wanna do that as I'm only concerned about how I look and wanna save my joints
