I believe that it is because social media has conditioned people into a primitive hive mind which is inherently cynical. I have definitely noticed a paradigm shift of people being not only less happy, but also desensitized to almost every stimulus

I want to believe this theory....but ******** got HUGE around 2006-08....enormous (i'd say its effect on people was greater pre 2010 than after). The change would come years after. Why?

Smart phones? 4G/5G waves making people stressed?

Too much real life in this thread.

What if we are the only ones that "survived" the simulation?

Maybe everyone else really is an NPC

I don't think it really set in until 2012-2014, and it is because people are exposed to content 24/7. It's just a constant dopamine stream and our brains have been destroyed.

Additionally, political correctness wasn't really a thing in 2012. Everyone said ******* back then. I think political correctness makes people have less fun

plus i feel like back then a song could get REALLY popular. Like you would hear it EVERYWHERE.

Now...is there any music that really has mass popularity anymore....name one song in the last 6 months that were HUGE. cant do it

in 2010-2012....you had like 5 a month. I haven't followed pop music or listened to radio since like 2005 but I knew all the songs in 2011 2012.

Now..top songs of 2020? WTF? none of these are that popular.....
no one can agree on anything anymore...nothing is popular.

Country was the same way you would have huge hits like Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line Cruise, Lady Antebellum but now it's just like meh chit that sounds like pop. Nothing even comes close to that stuff or stuff like LMFAO from back in 2009-2012.

The Weeknd had a couple memorable songs years ago but nothing even comes close to that older stuff.

There's not one good song in that video lol. Nothing that is catchy or interesting at all.

When did PC happen though? I don't remember a transition period where all of this stuff happened i don't even remember when people stopped saying ******* and gay exactly. I only remember in 2014 people were still yelling fuk her right in the pussy but soon after it was like everything went PC and we went into a different reality. It's so mind blowing.

In 2014 me and my coworkers were saying worst than that too. But it just doesn't happen anymore.

Mainstream music being released nowadays is all garbage. I didn’t listen to pop music back then but I can at least it was better than today’s. I can’t name you any famous artists or hit songs that came out in recent years. Back then you’d hear everyone buzzing “omg have you heard Bad Romance by Lady Gaga???” That chit would spread like wild fire before social media really got big

Smart phones were the biggest paradigm shift I’ll admit and most millennials didn’t hop on the iPhone train until 2012+

To indulge the 2012 theorists I’ll just concede they are probably correct about hyperreality (credit to @caeculus for making a thread on this) and hyper individualism/attention whoring that was enabled into overdrive when everyone had access to social media on the same device they used to make calls/text with. The more you encourage “going against the grain” the more you see things like “clown world” and the map of reality becoming distorted because theirs a lack of collective unity in the overall direction of society

One theory I like is that it was the cameras on smart phones. Now people want to take photos and share immediately with friends. Before you couldn't do that...the camera made everyone fake and distorted. Plus loss of privacy and all the cancel "Karen yells at someone" viral moment ruining peoples lives.

I think things were burgeoning before 2012, but 2012 seems a good date when its totally mainstream.

This is hard to think about and i dont think people really access this type of thinking. But think back to like 2006

I dont remember when myspace fell out. I know myspace was pre-******** but there was def. A period where myspace had died down yet ******** wasnt super popular yet

We had cell phones but we werent "interconnected"

Back then you saw sally and joe and you had no clue what they were up to. Youd be forced to go interact with them to find out. It really was MASSIVELY different.

Nowadays, you can know alllll that sally and joe have done by social media. TOO MUCH.

And i want to say even though i said "interconnection" its not really. It's connected in the medium but not facilitation; like an overbombardment of information. Now you know too much about sally and joe and you never even interacted with them. So its interconnection but not really "connected" in the sense of making us closer; almost like a fabrication too

This "interconnection" has also been exploited by entities looking to take advantage of the exchange of information

Edit: Also want to note, these entities have been able to dictate the outflow of information. Which is why we see chit like this massive bias from the left in this recent election. They can create and fabricate trends and narratives to make things appear as though they are something they are not

Which is very fuken dangerous

Another theory (hear me out on this).

Porn.

Porn before 2012....was different. Sure there were a million online sites...but a lot of it was pay only (I remember dudes on here repping for Brazzers and Naughty America passwords, now we could care less).

Pornhub and Youporn xvideos etc were less popular and had mostly 240/480p lower resolution videos. All the HD nice content was on paysites or you had to be an internet expert to find or torrent it.

Around 2012...suddenly all the porn tube sites had HD clips from all the paysites free....no cost. Perfect HD quality...Porn suddenly became VERY high quality and very easy to access. Maybe the tech finally allowed it...but I'm not so sure on that....why did it become free all of a sudden?

I think this REALLY affected men and society more than people think. Serious.

It has all changed over the last 8-9 years

You're not imagining it

Every aspect of life has gotten inherently worse & ruined in a lot of cases

I don't listen to music pre 2010 & watch movies pre 2010 for "nostalgia"
