If I recall correctly from Freshman year of uni, it's only people with European ancestry. And even then, only 5% Neanderthal DNA at most. Average for humans is around 2%. Highest concentration of Neanderthal are people who live in the Alps

Two speculative reasons why why died out.

They were bred out of existence and more intelligent than early sapiens and tried to settle conflicts passively instead of waging war, but early humans were all about fighting and conquest. So we kinda phucked them over.

Read the Neanderthal Parallax by Robert Sawyer. Its fiction, but an interesting book trilogy on what civilization would be like if neanderthals survived to modern times.
