While the Clash were influenced by pop punk and reggae a little no one in his right mind would call that pop punk. It's just punk to modern audiences. Also genre elitism makes you look wrong by default due sounding like a dick. It is also dismissive of the work of bands you are a fan of since it reduces it to a catch phrase, when in rerality you can often spot influences from many genres.
