long distance running..no thx
no BJJ, no gym due to lockdowns so decided to take up a lot of running the past 4 months. been running anywhere from 3-6 miles 4-5x week with some hill/flat sprints 1-2x week.
feet are shot, knees kill me. switched to just 2-3 miles 3x week with sprints sprinkled into those days (jog then sprint every other block or whatever) and night and day difference.
how the **** do people run like 5-10 miles everyday?

Sprinting is brutal on the joints, I heard that sprinting on grass or uphill work can decrease some of the impact.

It takes awhile to get used to running high mileage. You ramped up too fast.
I know those no BJJ feels tho for sure :/
Try supplementing with some calisthenic movements that can apply to BJJ instead to keep active? sprawls/burpees, shadow wrestling (this legit gets my heart pumping), learn handstands, pistol squats/shrimp squats, pull ups etc. I do all that and feel in great shape rn. I also don't enjoy JUST running daily, and I used to run 40 miles a week. That took ages to build up to. I don't want to do that again.

Also your running form might be crap. I fixed mine and it really helped to relieve knee and foot pains.

know these feels.. ankle is fuked up
not sure how you don't ramp up the mileage fast enough because it's so easy to just go a little further when you're running. it's not like lifting where your muscles are just done.

1. Tape shakeweights to your feet
2. Lay on back
3. Put legs in the air
4. kick them around vigorously
Thank me later.

Gotta read up on running brah but I’ll give you some cliffs:
Very rarely can someone go from no running to 20+ miles of moderate/high intensity running a week. Especially on concrete/asphalt.
Your cardiovascular system and muscular endurance won’t be the limiting factor.
It will be your tendons/ligaments that limit you because they take MUCH longer to adapt to the stress running puts them under.
The reason why most programs for beginner runners start with low/slow jogs at a “talking pace” is to allow everything to adapt slowly over months. It has very little to do with cardio and everything to do with building the structural foundation in your legs to be able to run for hours without destroying yourself
There’s also running form, foot strikes per minute, and breathing to consider.
Long distance running isn’t hard just because the actual races can be monotonous and a grind. But actually getting your body ready by resisting the urge to go all out and grinding out slow miles for months in order to do it is the ultimate runners grind.

You get used to it but running is boring as **** anyway
Let me guess this straight, so theres an exercise that increases cortisol and lowers test and growth hormone, it uses muscles as energy as well. Then to top it off this exercise takes 20 minutes to do, then the better you become the longer you gotta do it, eventually you’re running for an hour (or two).
Just L M A O
Stick to sprints, 45 seconds 10 times will wear you out more than running for hours.

-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.
-I'd rather live life saying "I failed" than "I could have"
