Luckily I've acquired enough equipment over the years to workout effectively at home so I didn't need to drop any cash on gear when lockdown hit.
I've also got a gym membership that I was using before they closed. I'm still uncomfortable about going back to gyms so it suits me fine for now.

A solid 1.5k in home gym gear is all you need. Closer to 1k if you take advantage of rewards card bonuses
Meanwhile the average gym membership is like $400/yr at $19/month plus fees. Add in commute/time and you easily pay just as much if not more over a 1 yr period for a gym membership
But yeah if I lived in the city you bet I would be walking to the nearest gym just for the social aspect. My favorite memories lifting at the gym happened to be when I had a 10 minute walk through the upscale business district to lift at an overpriced gym with 1 flat bench for the entire gym, srs

In the mean focus on body weight stuff and go hit pull ups in the park or off a tree in the forest. Lift rocks and logs

Imagine being so broke that you think people buying exercise equipment for their home is the equivalent of life savings.
Also, the people who only bought their stuff since covid started will probably turn out to be more right than you know.
LOL if you think the shutdowns are over.

JFL if you didn't know Covid was coming 3 years ago and invest in a home gym when prices were dirt cheap.
JFL if you think this is over and that you aren't going to get locked out of "your" gym again before it's all said and done.
JFL @ sharing equipment with sweaty autists and fat soccer moms.
JFL @ having to wear earbuds or listen to whatever garbage top 40 music your gym is playing instead of blasting Slayer, Pantera and Rammstein loud enough for the whole block to hear.
JFL @ not being able to work out bare ass nekkid if you feel like it.

LOL at not having both
Must suck to be poor and have to choose
Must suck to be poor and have to choose
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."
