I'm leaving AT&T for good (absolutely botched my contract in the beginning and ended up getting the myatt app to monitor it after 3 billing cycles trying to get it cleared up, and piss poor customer service) and I'll most likely be using Verizon after this. My shop has Verizon signal boosters since the managers all have Verizon, and it does seem like a fairly good network. I've been out of the phone market for about 2.5 years, and all I know is that phone prices have skyrocketed thanks to the poors paying whatever the manufacturer and cell phone carriers want with financing phones.

My requirements

Must be an unlocked phone (power to the people)
4-6gb of RAM
Not Chinese made, prefer Japanese made.
Needs to be a smartphone
Don't want to spend more than $600

I was thinking of a Motorola or a Sony Xperia (5 is in my budget). I have a Samsung s9+ but it's att only and it's glitchy. Currently using my old backup Sony Xperia. What do misc?

i love the pen and the size. and the reviews are all coming out and nothing but positive. once you get a note its hard to go back to smaller phones

the beauty of the Pixels is that they get the Google OS and Security Updates for 3+ years guaranteed so they are future-proofed.

the only concern with the 4a is it's not waterproof rated (No formal IP Rating).

Just get a used phone off swappa if you can and save a ton of money. Highly recommend getting 256 gb storage at the minimum. Doubt you’ll really ever need more than that though

I definitely like the bigger end of phones. My Sony was a big screen for its time (about 4 years ago) and I enjoyed using it and it was comfortable in my hands. I spent $550 on my Samsung and I really wasn't too thrilled about it with glitches and I liked the Sony's text features better. However I'm sure the times have changed and I'll compare the phones at a best buy or something in person. Thanks

the Pixel phones are made by Google. all of the other phones license Android from Google. there are many advantages to "Made by Google".

So far the Pixel ($350) Xperia 1 ($600, dropped price recently on Amazon) and Motorola has a $400 smartphone that caught my attention. For the price I think the Pixel is the way to go, the Sony is far more expensive, but it's bigger and it has more processing power. Tough call.

If I get a phone only good for 4G am I painting myself in a corner when provider's push 5G? Will the make me get a new phone in the next year or two?

I've been using Moto Gs since 2016 (G4 and G7)

No complaints.

Vanilla android, great battery life and cheap.

G8 is the latest not looked into it cos I don't need a new phone but if I was in the market it'd be the first one I looked at.

also - consider Verizon Prepaid Plans and just BYOD your own phone. The Prepaid Plans are the same things as Post Paid but a lot cheaper and also the fees/taxes are so much less -

Exactly what I was planning on doing. Unless I wasn't happy with them, I'd see myself staying for at least 9 months and with auto pay end up with $35 a month for unlimited talk and text with 5gb of data (wifi at home).

I don't ever want to sign a contract or long term agreement again after my fiasco with AT&T. These companies make more than enough from us as it is.

That's a solid deal. Too bad AT&T really pissed me off, otherwise I'd do that. Work has no service except for Verizon due to the signal boosters.
