The GOAT Nas drops his new album Kings Disease tonight (hip hop heads GTFIH)

Everyone knows Nas gave the world the greatest hip hop album of all time. Illmatic. I still keep that entire project in rotation to this day.

But at midnight the legend drops a brand new full length studio album.





I know some of his recent work hasn’t been up to par, the tracklist has me cautiously optimistic, but he’s still got it. Life Is Good was one of my favorite albums of the 10s. Hoping this is another classic to add to the collection.

Just finished my first spin. Definitely a top tier Nas project, just one notch below Life Is Good. Some of the best production he’s used since the 90s. Minimal “woke” and edgy chit lol. Just an enjoyable project from a legendary rapper. That Firm track was insane too.

I give it a solid 7.5/10

Honestly not too far from the truth lol but this has always been Nas' schtick and he's never really changed. A lot of his content is about uplifting oneself as well and searching for your own success, some street narratives, etc. But I suppose if you never really liked that about him you probably wouldn't like this album from a lyrical standpoint.

I usually give a record maybe 4 or 5 spins before I come out with a solid opinion, sometimes things sound different the second time around and you pick up on things that you didn't notice on the first listen. Have listened to it once. But I was actually pretty surprised this was pretty good. The production was a lot better, hooks were decent. I actually appreciate that the tracks were very short in nature. Appreciate the old school Firm reunion here as well but why Foxy Brown sounding like a man lmao. Features overall were pretty good. Mostly standard Nas flow, delivery and lyrics so nothing has changed here. Some of the tracks had some nice vibes and chill to listen to.

This was pretty good, think I give it a 7 or 7.5 out of 10, for now, might change but I don't think it is above an 8 for me.

Well said on all points. Yeah this isn’t a “woke” album at all really. No mention of BLM either. Honestly many from Nas’s generation don’t really phuck with BLM like that and are suspicious of them. Lord Jamar always talks about how they’re not a movement for his people and shares chit about the DNC controlling the narrative on social media all the time.

Nas has always preached black empowerment. Educating ones self, getting out of the hood, etc. He’s as much of a conscious rapper as he is an old school boom bap lyricist. Grouping him in with modern rappers is disrespectful and plain wrong IMO. His message has never been playing the victim or glorifying violence. Never.

I can tell miscers have been watching too many Ben Shapiro videos. I’m more on the right side of the aisle (see post history) but not every black person is what you see protesting on CNN lmao. You guys sound like Joe Biden ffs.

Funny Nas spent majority of his career being a fake intellectual yet when he was on a panel of people with triple digit IQ's on Maher he sat at the table quiet the whole time like a little kid who was invited to the adult table.

But where was all the "lyrical spiritual miracle" at Nas? 😂😂😂

Contrast that to real boss in Jay-Z who never had to lean on fake intellectualism to sell records.

I gave the album some more spins, honestly my ratings of it hasn't really changed from what I said initially, somewhere around a 7 to 7.5. Some solid tracks but nothing mind blowing. I'm a younger dude so I never really got to experience or see the buzz he got when he first dropped Illmatic. But I do remember the height of the beef he had with Jay-Z and when he dropped Stillmatic. Everybody thought Nas was done and that Jay ended his career but then he dropped Ether.

I find myself bumping a lot of his old classics, not sure if nostalgia but I don't think his newer stuff can hold a candle to it. Like Represent, One Mic, I Gave You Power, The Message, Get Down, The Cross etc. Last album of his I could truly call a classic is God's Son, although Hip Hop is Dead was really good and borderline. Everything else after that ranges from meh to good.
