Omaha, NE...thinking bout applying for a job there

My company has a posting and I'm gonna shoot an app in. Tired of Cali, tired of the grind and not having chit to show for it. Tired of restrictions on my rights and constant march of leftism. Orange County just turned blue last election, and despite some special elections wins for republicans I see the writing on the walls-children of illegals aren't going to start voting republican just because...

I'd like to own my own home and raise my kids in a low crime area with good schools-which Omaha has from what I'm reading. Another plus is that it seems living in the city isn't that expensive compared to other metros. Only chitty thing I've heard is that it gets bitter cold for half the year. I think I can deal with that.

What do you all think?

Omaha is legit.

It would probably take some time getting used to coming from Cali but you dont have to deal with all the over the top Blue BS involved with Cali.

Sounds cool to me. I've only driven through there a couple times, but its a place I certainly wouldn't have any qualms with relocating to if I landed a better job there. As a place to raise kids? Sure.

I'm originally from the Midwest, lived in Socal for about 7 years, and now back in the Midwest (Columbus Ohio now). Some retard like to derp on about "flyover country" and that shyt, but they're largely stupid.

Great place to settle down. Different mindset of people. You might think you want it, but you won't know for sure.

About 10 years ago, I moved to the west coast for work. After a while I bounced around several places in the Midwest. Currently in the Minneapolis area which I have never been a fan of. Sounds like I may be going to the Milwaukee burbs soon for work.

I used to think I'd never want to go back to the Midwest as a kid but the older I get and the more radical blue states get, it makes way more sense to me.

These days "flyover country" is a good thing. Less morons to invade and make a mess of like what happened in Texas, Colorado, etc...

Nebraska is one state I haven't really considered.

I have some distant relations up there. Pretty sure that is where my funny uncle John and Aunt Leora had their farm...mostly I remember my uncle was one of those sparkly eyed jokers who cheated at Uno and Leora made fried eggs for the grown ups for breakfast and had an old metal diner style milkshake maker and would make shakes at least every other afternoon.

One of my distant cousins who is a master electrician lived up there. He hated it. Visited TX for long-ish periods and eventually relocated to Corpus Christi. But maybe Omaha is worth dealing with the cold.

Having grown up in a hotter climate what I found tough to take in MI was how gray and dark the winters were and how long they dragged out.

Homesnacks and bestplaces are worth a look if you are considering a move.

Been there a bunch of times. Not a bad city. Got it's areas to stay out of for sure like any big city. Weather is almost as bipolar as CO. It gets hot and sticky in the summer and can have brutal cold winters, blizzards, ice storms, etc

Hope you like heat and humidity. Summers in eastern NE are brutal. I lived in Lincoln for 10 years when I was a kid. Winters are no picnic, either.

Runzas are great, though.

Actually in Omaha, or just somewhere in Nebraska? Outside of Lincoln and Omaha, Nebraska is a pretty empty state. That's not meant in a derogatory way, but just to point out the large difference between those two cities and most of the rest of the state.

Oh I believe it was BFE where the cousin lived. My paternal grandma grew up in a county about 2 hours SE of Lincoln/Omaha. I know we had family in St. Jo and our big family reunion was in KC.

They can be beautiful though (bad storms). One of the other "most strikingly beautiful" things I've seen was a big piece of the sky over Fort Worth as a storm was stirring. Looked like some kind of unreal movie special effects.

Like the gorgeous guy from London I can't actually recall what I saw; I just know it was off the charts amazing.

IME hail happens a lot more than tornadoes (broader coverage).

On Saturdays (non COVID years) NU's football stadium is the 3rd largest city in the state.

Applied, and now we wait.

Watched some youtube videos on Nebraska. One thing that gets mentioned over and over in Omaha and other small cities around the country is that they're boring and there's nothing to do. I just don't get it, most of these "boring" areas have tons of chit to do. Hunting, fishing, ATV/dirtbiking in tons of areas far off from cities. Even in harsh weather areas where outdoors stuff is hard it's not like the weather prevents you from indoor hobbies. I keep fish and my lady keeps orchids already. Been wanting to get back to woodworking as well.
