Yep, Laura looks like it could be a strong one by the time it makes landfall. I guess luckily it seems to be hitting one of the more sparsely populated portions of the Gulf(Houston, Galveston and NOLA seem like they'll be spared of the worst).

Born and raised in Texas and I remember heading to the East coast to live for the first time. i was so excited and terrified of Hurricanes since all I knew were Tornados. LOL hard at people going ape chit for weeks and then a Cat 3 I believe hit and all it did was rain. One of the lamest moments of my life. Four years and not a single strong storm hit.

Only real reasons to leave during hurricane:

1. Category 4+

2. You live in a trailer (I stayed in one in a cat 1 and did ok, anything above i'd probably leave)

3. You live in a flood area and predicted storm surge is high (My current house got 3 foot of water in katrina)

4. Tornadoes - hurricanes produce them and no matter the size of the storm or how great your home is, tornadoes will be a threat so don't be scared to leave.
