How did you get your current job?

Please share the path that lead you to your current job. And what that job is if you would like to share.

Online cold approach application? Indeed? Monster? Company site?

Family or friend recommendation? Were you qualified and just needed a foot in the door? Did they hire you based on good faith?

Fruitful internship?

Online application, technical screening over the phone and then a 15-20 minute interview. One of the easier interviews I've done but nobody would pass the screening without knowing what they're doing

Monster for my current job, although i've had offers on linkedin too.

Got contacted by a recruitment agent, wasn't too interested in moving job at first (it was still kind of early in my career) but went to the interview anyway, but they offered me the job with a significant salary bump so went for it. (Nearly double what i was currently earning with more benefits, all in)...I don't think I've ever applied for a 'real' job, it's always been recruitment agents contacting me on behalf of companies. I was 3 years into my career, so junior level as a developer but they were impressed with me in the interview, but i do have a CS degree. I'm 8 years in now, and have moved up in role a couple of times.

I'm a full stack developer, specializing in Java/Spring integration.

Applied online. followed up, showed up at their office, etc. From time of application to offer letter took 3 months....3 phone interviews, 2 in person....3 random pop-ins to their office, 3 follow up calls to HR, 1 approach in public when I saw the director out on a Saturday.

I was under-qualified for the position...they straight up told me so....but hired me because they liked my attitude and drive. That was 2 years ago.....I've been promoted 2 times since then.

Got into IT via an internship at age 18 then job hopped up the ladder and worked with 10 companies or so. Went from Help Desk pleb (28k) to an Integration Engineer/Linux SA (107k) in 14 years with basically no college and only basic IT certs. Knowing people and/or being likable got my foot in a few doors with people willing to teach me. Work hard and some bosses will notice you. Also, be smart and not a *******.

Graduated high school in the 1950s and while still in my suit and tie I walked over to the factory and demanded to talk to the owner. I gave him a firm handshake and asked for honest work and honest living. He hired me on the spot. I joined the union and a year later I got married and brought a house.

Was working at a small business and hit the top of the ladder at 26. Started looking at corporate opportunities and decided I didn't want to go that route. Found out about a local trade/service that was booming and decided to go all in so I started my own business while learning the trade working for someone else part time. After a year I had a handful of my own clients and grew my business now I'm doing great.

Highly recommend self employment you really can't go wrong if you are smart, determined, and patient.

Edit: because income is all that matters to misc, after about 4 years I was making 100k. Then pre-covid (7 years after starting my business) I was doing about 12.5k/month. Have lost 7 clients due to moving so now I'm down to 9.5k/mo. Expenses are about 10k/year.

Online application. 2-3 months later I get a phone call for a telephone interview, then set up 2 in person interviews.

I already had 2 years experience for the job so they wouldn't have to spend a lot of time training me.

My current job came from years of previous doors being opened by taking jobs & positions that were less than desirable!


Graduated HS --> spent 3 straight years in college --> got tired of being broke --> joined an apprenticeship / Trade school --> went BACK to college as I was working my way through trade school --> received my journeyman Pluming license through the state of Tx as I graduated with a Mech. engineering degree --> worked with several mechanical contractors --> worked a few engineering firms --> by this time I had made a name for myself in the industry so I had companies calling me --> took lead position at engineering firm --> worked on prestigious project that drew a lot of attention -- got offer from current company I couldn't pass up.. and here I am

I got my full time job by having many years of part time experience with my organization. when i graduated college, i applied for a full time job in my same department but different division. the big thing i credit to getting this job is volunteering to lead a training a year and a half before. I didn't know it, but I ended up being paired with the manager of that new division. after her and I worked together at that training, she knew she wanted to hire me in her division. when the full time job opened up, i applied. after the assessment (I believe there were ten other candidates) she called me 30 minutes later to tell me i got the job.

I think starting salary is between 48k - 50k. I work for a surrounding city so I'm at about mid 50s. I notice that the further away from a big city you are, the higher the pay. Harder to find qualified ppl maybe?

I had signed up through a temporary agency while interning at another company. Got a 3 month contract with my current company, they liked me so I got a permanent job after the contract ended.

I am one of the most qualified at what I do in the state that I live in. I would say in the top handful. I could walk in the door of any firm in town and have a job immediately.


that sounds very egotistical but its true and the simplest explanation.
