She was most likely snooping and shut the door so she wouldn't be spotted. Not realizing it locks from the inside at all times. Either that or he killed her, but that's pretty unlikely because it would be super obvious with a sign of a stuggle.

That's an old assumption. If you get any kind of DV trouble now entire career of LE is over. Its a huge liability no department takes on.
