On an unrelated note, there was a large “DEFUND THE POLICE” sign spray painted in the middle of my uni’s campus on a giant decorative boulder. I purchased a spray paint and changed the “U” to an “E” last weekend

This is why we need better standards for being a cop. Seeing as how we already have a glut of law degree people who cannot find work as lawyers, perhaps requiring a law degree to be a cop would be helpful. That being said, being an effective cop requires a certain level of brawn inversely correlated with brains, as evident in specimens such as memcop, rhadam, dave22reborn, etc. So IDK how this is going to play out. Perhaps it is simply a fact of life that cops must be retarded.

I know nothing of that city or state..but in my city, There is no correlation between mayor and police chief....they are completely separate jobs. Mayor is largely a figure head, city manager appoints Chief, city council approves chief.

Breonna Taylor situation was sad and one of the only cop killings recently parades around that I truly don’t understand wtf they were thinking and how they haven’t been arrested/jailed yet

And this is all coming from a guy who was had nothing but fantastic experiences with cops srs. Have never been in trouble with them and have had them let me go for tons of stuff, even for drunk driving.

It's insane that

1) in a lot of places they can't be charged for actual crimes they commit

and

2) the unions have a lot of power to suppress complaints, dox witnesses, etc...

If you're a cop and ur seen to commit a crime, you should face an even harsher penalty than a citizen. You should be held to the highest standards. Because you swore a fuking oath and people trust you, and to abuse that public trust is a greater crime.

Yeah lets raise the standards by cutting the budget as much as half in some places, in a rush job with no real plan to get it finalized by next fiscal cycle while the political support for this idiotic idea is still hot and also no real plan on how to spend the other half of the money other than something something community centers and social workers.

Standards are going to skyrocket i bet. Everyone is watching the riots and ambushes on police and thinking "man I really want to be a cop now"

Not everyone thinks the same thing. I don't want them defunded. I want them scrutinized and reformed. Doing nothing and throwing your hands up is not an answer. Because if u put ur hands up and say u can't do anything, this time the citizens will shoot u rather than the other way around, lol.

Where I live, I actually have fantastic cops. They aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, but they are kind and have empathy. But I don't live in the ghetto. When cops deal with scum all day, it changes them. Honestly, cops should be required to see a shrink every week imo. Srs. There are a lot of things that need to be fixed -- in areas like Chicago, I can't imagine working as a cop for 20 years and not becoming a little racist from what you see. It becomes a fuking defense mechanism. And that is the problem. Everyone looks like sewage to you after a while. I knew a guy from WoW who was a cop. He got so jaded he had to quit. He said it changed him as a person.

Authority + dealing with the chittiest people imaginable can turn a good man who wants to help his society into a racist tyrant who does nothing but terrorize the very community he originally swore to protect. This is the nature of government. It needs to be balanced. Everything needs to be deliberate and carefully measured.

Even if funding level stays the same, there is no way standards are going up, how can they? ANYONE capable of doing anything else is not going to be a cop. People used to be cops because they wanted to, after this chitfest of a year, nobody out there intelligent and with options is going to watch the news and everyone chitting on cops and going to say yeah I want to go do that. There have been mass retirements, they have vacancies and they have now guaranteed only people with no other choice that dont want to be there are going to join. You are replacing experienced cops with people that dont want to be there.

I think cop standards will plummet and they will be more like corrections officers, people hating their life that dont want to be there.

Yes I know a lot of great cops too and have tons of respect for them srs. I have a good buddy who’s a high ranking cop and has invited me for a ride along. He patrols a super ghetto Little Mexican town right next to mine and says there isn’t a night where he hasn’t had to pull out his gun or feared for His life and I believe him 100% that place is a ****hole. Things like mandatory shrink etc would actually be great imo. Maybe mandatory meditation classes or sessions too.

Even if funding level stays the same, there is no way standards are going up, how can they? ANYONE capable of doing anything else is not going to be a cop. People used to be cops because they wanted to, after this chitfest of a year, nobody out there intelligent and with options is going to watch the news and everyone chitting on cops and going to say yeah I want to go do that. There have been mass retirements, they have vacancies and they have now guaranteed only people with no other choice that dont want to be there are going to join. You are replacing experienced cops with people that dont want to be there.

I think cop standards will plummet and they will be more like corrections officers, people hating their life that dont want to be there.
That's why the whole system needs to be reformed and the community needs to install one that the people can believe in...u can't have a government if half the country no longer believes in it. And that's how this all relates to the retard in chief. Someone like Romney could have represented both Democrats and Republicans. But sadly, we got this incompetent, divisive buffoon instead.
