What are the prices of stuff you buy at the grocery store?


Here in FL I noticed the grass fed ground beef has gone up to $7.50 for a pound. I went to walmart to stock up on canned goods and chili beans were 50 cents, corn, green beans, were 50 cents too. Baked beans were 65 cents to $1.15 depending on which ones. Diced tomatoes were 65 cents. 4 ounce can of white mushrooms were 90 cents. 5 pack of ramen noodles was $1 but 12 pack was $2.15. They had value brand of mac & cheese for 33 cents a box. I got like 20 of them. 12 eggs were $1.09. Can of sardines were $1 each, small can too with only like 3-4 sardines in them. I got ripped off. 14 ounce can of sardines was $2.25. Cant remember what I paid for rice.

I only bought the walmart store brand of stuff. I went to other stores looking for the cheapest place and it was crazy. Aldis wanted $1.25 for a can of beans. Same thing with dollar stores and save-a-lot. Way too expensive for me. Some things I cant afford to buy now like beef and cheese. Sucks. They also have limits of how many things you can buy if you buy online and I got a bunch of mean stares from people I think because I had like $150 worth of canned goods in my cart. Idk whats wrong with people.

join Costco if you're worried about price.

Nearest costco is an hour and a half away one direction. Is Sams club similar? I might join but I heard it is only good for bulk frozen meat and I only have a regular sized freezer.

look at Aldi too.

Aldi is expensive as hell here. I went and there and saw the prices and was like NOPE and I put my cart back. They also stole my quarter for the cart. It wouldnt give me my quarter back.

bulk is really the only way to combat it

buying bulk meat will offset the cost of a chest freezer pretty quickly but filling it up costs a lot up front

Beef prices are out of control here too.

We are in cattle country though, have a half cow freezer pack being pasture finished right now.

Prices of everything except gas have gone up, which I'm guessing is because of a large number of people receiving more unemployment than their actual wages for 4 months?

Anyways, high prices don't seem to be going away anytime soon. I'm kind of hoping for a mini recession so things can get back to normal a bit, because I'm certainly not earning more than before.

Dunno about grass fed ground beef but you could get normal ground beef for ~2.99lb at Sam's Club in FL last time I went

Canned vegetables are always mushy and disgusting, try frozen corn/green beans, they'll taste a million times better and actually crunch.
If you're poor you should buy dried beans as it's typically a better deal.

Damn, if Aldi is too expensive, what the hell can you eat? I haven't been there in a long time, but I remember it being cheap as fuk. Like way cheaper than anything I'd seen at even the cheap grocery stores.

1300lb or so on the hoof, should be a trimmed and wrapped 300lbs for our half at $5/lb.

A pretty basic shop for a 2200kcal rounded diet in NZ costs me about $115NZD.

Regular beef mince costs $13 kilo.

Green Beans at 250g are like $5.

Walmarts always the cheapest.

When I have a lot of stuff to get on grocery list I always go to Walmart first.

I've done enough price checking to trust Walmart has the best price out of places in my area.

Even if they don't have competitors beat the prices are virtually identical.

The only problem is they don't have everything I need, so I have to go to a few other places.

Aldi is significantly less expensive for a lot of items here. For some things though it is about the same and for some things it is more expensive.

Big brand names for packaged food run promotions with regular supermarkets ($5 off when you buy 5, $X when you buy 3, store coupon specials, etc.). For brand names Aldi is usually the same or higher than a regular supermarket.

DFW food prices are high IMO and I felt that way for a few years now. That is in comparison to SE MI. Every product across the board is priced higher here than in MI and I run into OOS a lot. This was true even before the pandemic.

I shop Aldi & Kroger for food most of the time and buy different things in each place. Kroger keeps cheap chicken most of the time. Beef is the one thing I will go to Albertsons/Tom Thumb for here. Wal-mart has been my go to for awhile for household/paper products/toiletries and such that I can't pick up "good enough" versions of at Dollar Tree. Used to use Target for that, but I barely go into a Target anymore. Their prices for a lot of merchandise is higher than Kohl's if you have any patience to watch for sales/coupons. You don't even have to work very hard at it.

I don't miss MI winter, but I miss Meijer. Selection more like Target, prices closer to Kohl's/Wal-mart. And their meat was usually good.

I'm old though and suffer from sticker shock all the time. For ages Campbell's Cream of Tomato would go on seasonal specials 3/$1. Now the regular price here for a can of cream of tomato is at least $1 for regular and $1.69 to $1.99 for the Healthy version. I notice that one because my daughter asks for it a lot.
