Why's South Korea so successful although they were raped by Japan?
Srs. Not trying to start a subtle race bait thread. I'm genuinely curious.
Why do you think countries like Korea are so successful although they were completely annihilated in recent history.
Korea was one of the poorest countries in 1950s (legit poorer than Ghana).
They got raped hard by Japan and civil war, and they are somehow among the wealthiest nation in 2020.
What makes them different than other countries/races that say it's impossible for them to make it because of their oppressed history?

I don't know the exact answer, but I'd have to imagine it has to do with how fuking conservative South Korea is. In the past it was a very female dominated society and mothers almost bullied their kids to the point that they had mental illness. Severe alcoholism is a big thing in South Korea to this day. I have some younger South Korean clients who are in the US with money and no parents, and they are a lot more relaxed and chill. But the 1st generation South Korean moms are fuking lunatics.

They followed the standard East Asian economic model of state sponsored capitalism.
People forget that South Korea's growth started under the authoritarian dictator Park Chung Hee whose economic reforms and 5 year plans(sound familiar?) brought Korea from poverty to an emerging economy. Growth continued after his death and the government invested heavily in the electronics and steel industries. By 1995 they were the 11th largest economy in the world.
Korea has very high R&D and one of the most educated work forces in the world.

Intelligence is directly correlated to wealth building. South Korea has the 3rd highest average IQ in the world.

Korea chose their side wisely. Distanced themselves from the commie north and adopted western democratic ideals/economic policies. They’ve benefited from it ever since. Just have to look at how they are owned by western central banks, and they were the first to implement “unlimited liquidity” to prop up their markets back in March, right before the US did the same to send the market into a permanent uptick
Japan has traditionally sided with the western enemy and thus have had to make it on their own so to speak. Since this is a subtle japan vs Korea thread

Actual legit answer:
1) Chaebol system - This is a conglomerates operated by 1 family, privately owned (Samsung, Hyundai, etc.) - The government protects them and encourages them to grow. Instead of having corrupt politicians, who flush money into property, mistresses and drugs, you have corrupt business families using the money to hyper-simulate the economy, while skimming the cream off the top. If you want anyone to be corrupt, its business people, because they actually earn money with corrupt money.
2) Highly Educated populace - The dream back in the day is have your son be a scholar and earn big bucks. Its deeply ingrained into their culture that education=success. Their king even invented an entire fukking new language to make it easier to communicate, which is the modern Korean language today. This meant that modernising is easy, because everyone is desperate to be the most educated.
3) Hardest working populace - Longest hours both at school and at work. Japan's work hours is considered holiday hours to them. Look up "Hell Joseon" to see what Koreans really feel about their work life and Korea. A lot of them believe life on earth is hell, and that they've died and ended up here due to their misdeeds. They have the highest suicide rate in the developed world. Countries with higher suicide rates are all chitholes. Everyone talks about Japan suicide rates, but its baby standard compared to SK.
4) They're not that rich - Their GDP per capita is the same as Putero Rico. The Koreans I talk to tell me that the Chaebol system creates unfair competition, and more efficient businesses get strangled to death.

East asians are highly industrious, productive and hard working.
There is only one or arguably two countries with predominantly east-asians that have failed (North Korea and Mongolia). Some may also argue China has failed but its a longer bow to draw.
On the other hand, the rest is an overwhelming success (Japan, Singapore (90% han chinese dominance), South Korea, Taiwan etc)
