Wednesday Night Back Training with Drew

Had to skip deadlift this week bc I have a hamstring thing and my training partner has a biceps thing.

Yates Row 3x10
Shrug 3x10
One-Arm Pulldown 3x10
Straight-Arm Pulldown 3x15
Back Raise 3x10

What does everybody else’s back workouts look like this week?

Which barbell are you waiting on? I'm sure you're checking FB Marketplace for a cheap barbell in the meantime?

Good stuff. No low back exercises on back day?

Looking at the Ohio power bar from rogue. Also been looking on elitefts as well.

Yes i have looked on fb but none have come up. My city is not that big. In the meantime i got an ez curl bar and farmers walk handles. I also managed to find 4x45lb bumpers so once those arrive i can at least do farmers walks or suitcase deadlifts.

I use a Rogue B&R power bar. It's not as popular as the Ohio bar but I researched it and ultimately went with the B&R (and that was long before things were hard to find). My point is, maybe look into the B&R because it might be easier to get.

How is the knurling on it? Is it aggresive enough? I am wary as its bare steel so i have to do more maintenance.

I was even considering getting the westside power bar too but they sellnout so fast. Kind of annoying how the standard bar has no cemter knurling

doing more full body at the moment but still getting into the swing of things.

currently doing dumbbell rows (not the single-arm on the bench kind) but with both arms at the same time. kinda liking them because of the extra ROM and the freedom of not moving them in a fixed path (so I can best target lats). Gives a pretty nice hamstring stretch too.

And of course some pullups too, I gained like 15 lbs in 4 months so I'm kinda sucking at them right now lol. Usually some light band work at home too, nothing major to write home about.

Will start to do a lot more back stuff once I'm done with exams. Probably get into some pendlay rowing and cables

I use it to squat and bench press with. But I have a Titan Atlas bar that I deadlift with.

The knurling isn't something I think much about unless it happens to be real smooth like at some commercial gyms. But the B&R feels pretty good to me.

It's more aggressive/deeper knurling than the Atlas bar, that's for sure. Come to think of it, maybe I should try deadlifting with it now that I've been using the Atlas bar for so long now. It would be good to compare.

As far as the bare steel, I use to oil it every week or two like you're supposed to, but I've gotten out of the habit. I have noticed a few little rust spots popping up, so I should do that this afternoon.

I just did one-arm cable pulldowns for the first time yesterday. It sort of feels like doing hammer pulldowns or hammer rows. I felt that in my lats a lot more than I ever have with a wide-grip pulldown.

I'm going to try trap bar rows next week because the belly limit my range of motion with a barbell or football bar.

It seems like it's going to be a little wobbly to use for that, but at least it won't hit the belly and prevent a full row.
