Two applicants for a job at my company - white male, black female - were even until.

...I rightfully pointed out that a candidate who is a person of color, and female, is badly needed at our company.

The other members of the hiring team, who were split down the middle, fell silent when i pointed it out on a zoom call. They preferred the white guy.

After the call was over, our HR lady reached out aplogizing saying she should have been more vocal about that fact.

She thanked me for biringing it up.

The next day, I got a message from our team lead that we'll be moving forward with the black female.

I actually liked the white guy, but it's 2020 and diveristy is most important at every company.

Srs story, not making this up (c o p e, angry miscers). Good to see more people of color get a chance in corporate america.

I used to help with recruiting at a past employer. Every minority and female resume went into one pile. White male resumes were a separate pile. Women and POC were guaranteed at least one in person interview no matter how bad they sucked.

Only after we had positions filled with women and POC's were we allowed to start looking at white male resumes.

It makes sense to me. If both are good candidates, why not get some diversity?

I know miscers think EVERYTHING should default to the white man. In media(WHY IS IT NOT A WHITE MAN REEEE), in politics, in jobs. They seem to think they're inherently more deserving and any desire diversity is offensive to them.

I did not know McDonald's allows cashiers to join in on Zoom meetings.

You're making a lot of assumptions, you're doing the exact same thing OP did, and it's ironic that you can't even recognize that you're doing it.


In my company we hire solely on merit and how well they'd get along with everyone else. It's impossible that the two people OP mentioned were exactly the same merit wise, OP's HR should have, A - told him to get back to cleaning the bathrooms, and B - dug deeper to see who was the better candidate.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

On some real talk here, some places will not hire black folks (SRS) because they have the potential to complain, bring out the race card etc. (SRS)

You've never worked with a black woman before I assume. 95% of them are exactly the same in the corporate world unless you find some that are qualified and are working higher up positions. Those ones are fantastic usually. Otherwise they are awful. Same goes for young white women that recently graduated college too.

Also, what's the job OP? What type of work?
