Are we getting close to herd immunity for COVID?

It seems that cases are in the middle, but deaths are dropping lower by the day.

It would make for the argument that we're actually getting closer to herd immunity and that COVID might be on the decline.

The point of flattening the curve was never to make the virus actually disappear but rather prevent a mass spread.

With reopening states, businesses and schools -- contraction is indeed going to be a part of that, but it's not like we could hide in our houses and let it pass over like a storm.

With all these mask mandates, are they intentionally trying to block herd immunity?

I’ve seen the whole range of estimates for herd immunity. No one really knows. Would be awesome if it was like 15% but I’m not counting on that.

where i live, more people are dying from pneumonia and other communicable diseases than covid (srs). and heart related deaths are like 20x the amount of deaths. covid is fake news.

Hospitals DID get overwhelmed in certain areas in Florida and Texas. People were literally sent back home to die because there wasn't room in the ICU. Like it or not, the scientists know more about this **** than miscers who barely passed high school science class and were right.

Researchers figure we'd need resistance in 50-70% of the population to achieve some semblance of herd immunity. The US has 6million confirmed cases out of a 313million population, a whopping 1.9%. Lets be generous and assume the recorded cases are 1/10th of the actual due to younger, healthier people who had it and didn't develop symptoms warranting a test / confirmed infection.

Call it 20% total exposure, and that's probably nowhere close to realistic. We need a vaccine or there will be a chitton more deaths before we get anywhere close to herd immunity

There is no perfect immunity, even with other viruses. Heck, before I got corona in May, I was sick twice, recovering than getting sick again 2 weeks later. Both illnesses lasted over two weeks. The best we can do is focus on keeping our immune systems strong. Lose weight, knock off the booze, and get outdoors.

Herd immunity doesn't require everyone or even the 60% to get exposed. It just requires resistance in 60% of the pop. 43% is already PARTIALLY resistant due to having type o blood lmao.

strong pandemic when you literally have to force people to get tested because they have absolutely mild symptoms
