Tradies, what trade has the most potential in pay? I'm tired of working in an office.

I don't even mind finishing my degree or learning a trade, but I need to get out of this office. IDC how much I make I'm going crazy in here. Get me out to the field, even if it's a 50/50 indoor outdoor split.

As far as I have seen most trades require a bit of nous

One that doesn’t is locksmith. Just need a big drill. Pays very well

Industrial plant workers

Millwright
Pipefitter
Electrician
Instrument tech
Plant operator

All make 6 figs easy

Then there are the sub trades

Scaffolders
Insulators
Laborers

Which are more like actual tradies with the harder work and lower pay.

I have a 6 figure office job and I'd consider G4P to gtfo.

I rehab properties on the side and rent them out to fulfill my tradie urges. Up to 8 units so far, will probably replace my income entirely around 25 units.

Equipment Operators. i.e. forklift, heavy equipment, drivers etc

Heavy Equipment technicians. i.e. servicing the heavy equipment on construction sites. (easy 100k+)

Welders/Iron Workers/Electricians/Plumbers/Carpenters etc.

Avoid crap like drywall/sheetrock.

HVAC or Electrical is the trade to go into to earn dem wages...but leaving an office for a trades job is gonna be tough. If you don't smoke, dip, drink, or beat your wife in your trailer home every night, i have some bad newz for you op.

Unless you want to get into welding and work to become really good at it, I'd go for pipefitter on the industrial side. Piping is the discipline making up the biggest % chunk in the cost of industrial plants etc, so they tend to have the biggest potential for hours, overtime, job security

Rig welders are by far the highest single paying real trade I've seen, $100/hr for a regular CS rig welder and more for people who can weld exotics. But you need to be good to be in demand, it comes with potential health risks, and you need to manage your own equipment / material costs.

A good 50/50 field/office mix would be something like a field inspector on the Quality side or moving into more specialized services like NDE, you can make a lot of money doing those too

Depends on your location and if you're willing to travel

TX/LA coast you could pull 6 figures through Pipefitter, Welder, Inspector, Safety, Process Operator, Crane Operator

None will produce that kind of salary out the gate though...unless you're really talented and get all of your certs ASAP

“Heavy equipment servicing... easy”

Just lol

Once walked through a truck garage for a meeting with a customer. Tradie was whacking a truck wheel with a sledgehammer trying to break it out from glued in concrete etc.

Two hours later I walked out of meeting and the tradie was still sledgehammering the same wheel.

Maybe you should get some reading comprehension and understand what a parenthesis ( ) means.

example. Heavy equipment techs make a lot of money. (easily over 100k)

Can't believe I have to spell it out completely.

Brb risking my life over $20/ hr, no thanks jeff
-Some people say good things come to those who wait, truth is, good things come to those who work..... who work later.....who work harder...... who are willing to go further than anyone else to get them. If you're waiting for good things to come to you, you'll be waiting for a pretty long time.

just look up prevailing wages for your state.

example: here's Chicago

https://www2.illinois.gov/idol/Laws-...%2015/Cook.pdf

Looks like operating engineers can make $58/hr which is like $120k before overtime.

Welding, plumbing, electrician

You can eventually make damn good money if you stay with it. But you don’t start out making 6 figures.

Get your license in whatever trade and you won’t have any prob making good money.

Takes 7 years of apprenticeship to get your license as a plumber though. Which is my goal, then start my own business

Commercial HVAC/electrical/plumbing (residential sucks and is typically much lower paid), welder (if you want to take the time to get GOOD as others have said, and having your own rig is the best way to make the most bank), heavy equipment operator, and elevator service/repair all have 6 figure potential and are not as backbreaking as most other tradie jobs.

Curious for tips too and will accept PMs with advice to get a foot in the door.

As much as I enjoy the work, I’m thinking about withdrawing from my 2nd year of law school. I’m not made to be behind a book/computer all day and it’s draining me of my passion. Srs
