Yeah pretty much. If you are OH pressing a plate for 10, with good form, id say you are one strong son of a bitch. At my best and at a respectable leaish bf% i can probably do 165 x 8 with great form. Right now im not sure i can get 115 x 10 lol

I have to start using a lift off past 135. Even if I COULD unrack something like 185 on my own, I'd rather not risk phucking up my rotator cuff in the process doing it, and I can do a better working set without awkwardly fumbling with that chit anyway.

Agreed that standing strict OHP is a very humbling lift for most.

Arnold prefers them seated too. Twink life son.
I prefer the sitting version because it eliminates excessive strain on the lower back. I would strongly recommend that you use a sturdy lifting belt.

What do you think behind the neck press is if you don't press it over your head goof?

You think doing it behind the neck makes you a special and unique snowflake?

Overhead press.

Brb injuring myself and being out of the gym for months cause some guy online half my size tells me to do ohp for some reason

This.

Doesn't matter how you do them except that you should figure out what works best for you.

I like to do them seated these days, but I did strict standing strict press as well as push presses for years too.

When I was in my teens, I did behind the neck. In my twenties, I used dumbbells.

It's all good.

It's all using your shoulders to press weight over your head.

That looks like a good set up.
My old gym had one like this which was behind you. People who weren't flexible, couldn't even unrack the plain barbel.

Never used one of those before. I have seen them but I always prefer standing press with barbell so never tried that uncomfortable looking piece of chit.
You would be surprised just how much time I have to waste.

Has leg drive/momentum though. As strong as he is, it's not a good technique for max muscle mass.
It's more for the olympics where form doesn't matter as long as you get the weight up.

lmao.

https://breakingmuscle.com/fitness/t...%20a%20barbell.

-The majority of overhead pressing exercises requiring the greatest stability (standing and/or with dumbbells) demonstrated greater neuromuscular activity in the deltoid muscles as compared to exercises performed seated and/or with a barbell.
-The standing barbell press activates the biceps and triceps brachii to a greater extent than the seated barbell press and either the seated or standing dumbbell press.

https://fitnessvolt.com/21361/standi...verhead-press/

What do all of these numbers mean for you and I who are mostly concerned with building muscle and strength? It means that any form of standing press requires more stability which means that it will result in a lower 1RM, BUT the exercises that required the greatest amount of stability, meaning the standing barbell or dumbbell overhead press, required greater neuromuscular activity in the deltoids as well as the biceps and triceps brachii than did the seated version of both of the lifts.

This is somewhat of a surprise to me, but the clear winner as far as building muscle is concerned is both the standing barbell and dumbbell overhead press. It always made sense to me that when seated our core would have to do less work and therefore the shoulders would be able to do more, but this apparently is not the case.

Push presses are great mass builders. It's just fast twitch. It trains you to be more explosive, and you use more weight. It helps with force development, which helps with strength, and when you get stronger for given volume, you get bigger. So even though you use a bit of leg drive in the beginning, there is more LOAD, including the eccentric portion (which isn't end all be end, but heavy eccentrics do provide muscle growth).Time under tension is a meme.
