Yes, had it for a few months. Bad form and being careless on dumbbell rows caused it.
Went away after lot of stretches and rehab exercises. Also skip heavy lower back exercises for a while and let it heal.

I'll put them here if i can find them.

The Priformis Stretch is really good

It wasn't lifting related as it flared up when the gyms were shut and I hadn't been working out

The only thing I can possibly attribute it towards is once I threw a stick for my dog and my body got stuck and didnt follow through with the throw n i felt a slight twinge in my lower back, hasnt been the same since

I do, it doesn't go away. Sorry

Stretch and strengthen the lower back and hamstrings. Reverse hypers and Glute ham raises are your friend.

I still take pain killers often when I feel it acting up.

Could be the stick throw. I felt a sharp pain the moment i fukked up.
Then whenever i tried to raise my left leg, pain would shoot down my left butt cheek all the way down my leg. Thought it was permanent.
Got real lucky it went away. Definitely made me a lot more careful about lower back exercises.
But in your case, it happened outside the gym.

All i can say is do daily stretches like the ones i mentioned. If you feel it hurt during the stretches, then you know it's targeting the sciatica but don't force anything. Good luck.

I've had it for years. Mine is not as bad since corona closed the gyms and I'm not lifting heavy anymore.

Sometimes doing anything too much triggers it, even sitting down. It really is pain in the ass, literally.

I herniated 2 disks really badly when I was 18. Shooting pain down my leg and lower back, terrible sciatica. At 21 I had a laser micro disectomy and they cleared the material from pressing on my nerve. Took a couple hours and only have like a one inch scar.

31 years old now and have had no pain.

Basically the exercising and the stretching works.

I had it years ago
Build your abs up also. But only after the pain goes down.

I found this to be the best relief.

Find an exercise based physical therapist that can assess you and set you up with a home exercise plan. They should be able to tell you the degree of severity.

Get the book "Back Mechanic" by Stuart McGill. If you follow the plan in the book, you will heal to 100%.

For me, I can only sit in a specific type of simple "guest" chair. Anything else and it is triggered in 5 minutes. That and getting a better bed while sleeping with a pillow between my legs keeps it under control.

Have it for the last 15 years. The first year was the worst. One time even wasn't able to cross the street in time before the traffic signal changed from green to red. I had to get used to intermittent claudication, repeating a brief walk and a brief rest.

While the cause of the condition differs from case to case, the name of it is always the same, sciatic nerve pain or sciatica.

Since already many good posters have given you good advice, technically I have nothing new to add but tips in your daily life.
[ul]
  • Again, the first year was the worst.

  • There were bad days but also good days.

  • During the year 5th - 10th, I rode a bike a lot.

  • During the last 5 years I jogged a lot.

  • Never skipped the w/o (just adjusted) because of the pain.

  • I wasn't able to sleep either prone or supine before, but now (since a year ago) I can.

  • [/ul]
Like any other illnesses and conditions, you can't expect sympathy from other people who don't have it because they don't understand, like we ourselves didn't until we ourselves got it.

Just don't give up, don't let the pain control your life and meanwhile have to live with it.

    Good luck.

Stop the pain killers. Get a lacrosse ball or baseball and massage your sciatic nerve area and piriformis. Direct massage is the number one thing to do that most people don't do. Also unlock your hips with the ball as well.

Then these exercises are how you rehab it:
-Stuart McGill big 3. Look this up and do this twice a day
-Once it gets better, do db romanian deadlifts with perfect form. Keep your abs braced, and squeeze your glutes on the way back up
-Hyper extensions. A lot of them. Bodyweight is fine
    -More planks

It should go away fairly quickly if you do all of that consistently. I have scoliosis and fukked up my piriformis one time pretty bad. I went from not being able to tie my shoes and barely getting out of bed, to normal in about 4-5 weeks doing this. You'll get the pain from time to time, but after doing the exercises above consistently it should go away. It has been 5 years and haven't felt it once since.
