I'm not saying you shouldn't eat over that mark. I'm just saying there's no point if your motivation is increased muscle gain

My main point was that the poster I was responding to is likely fine eating at the level he is

To answer OP, I typically just try to shoot for bodyweight. If I go a little under or over on protonz I don't stress it a bit. I do make sure to get a bare minimum of 150 or so though @ 195#.

More protein will always be better even if you're natty. However most people would rather eat pop tarts and donuts instead of say eating 2 chicken breasts because some non lifter like Ian mccarthy told them to

Pre covid when I was hitting the iron every day I was at 1g/lb BW, so like 175g per day

But since gyms back in march ive been at 120-150g per day, still been working out with a kettlebell and BW/bands but since I haven't been moving heavy weight I really haven't kept the protein too high.

Gyms are opening back up in my state though so im about to ramp that b1tch up

Only up to a point. Fiber from whole plants is also highly satiating and important if cutting, and you can't displace too much fat for hormonal reasons.

Protein is King! The more the better!

https://www.lookgreatnaked.com/blog/...ical-analysis/

A total of 30 resistance-trained subjects (and these subjects would be considered highly trained, with an average lifting experience of almost 9 years) participated in the study: 10 in the control group who were at caloric maintenance, and 20 in the experimental group who ate a caloric surplus, with virtually all of the additional calories consumed in the form of a whey/casein protein powder.
After 8 weeks, no statistically significant differences were seen from baseline levels in either group. That said, the high protein group did gain an average of 1.7 kg (3.7 lbs), all in the form of FFM.

This. I see better gains in every aspect when I have high ass protein. ESPECIALLY when my calories are lower, I tend to hold every ounce of muscle and even seem to gain some + strength when on a diet but high ass protein. Best physiques i ever see always eat high protein too

Of course eating an insane amount of protein will work.. the point from myself and others was that you wouldget the same results from far less protein

Eating 400g when your body benefits the same from 200g is the same as taking out money and burning it

This was a giant troll post anyway, no one eats 400g every day nor do they need to, they'd have intestinal blockages regularly

Did you even read the study?

" The most interesting thing here is that all of the added weight was attributed to gains in FFM as opposed to body fat. This suggests that overfeeding protein well above levels normally thought to maintain a positive nitrogen balance may in fact have a small effect on enhancing the hypertrophic response to resistance training."

I'm not talking about their "suggested speculation" these studies are all likely funded by supplement companies and their "suggestions" are based on that.

I'm saying that the actual results only suggest that a calorie surplus builds muscle. What you would need is a control group in the same surplus but less protien in order to prove any of the suggestions above. Can you not see it was designed this way (with the control group at maintenance) to skew the results in favour of the high protein group? Obviously a method bias?

Lmao strong comprehension skills.

Using Bjorn's logic being in an experimental group is conducive to hypertrophy.

The caloric surplus is most likely what led to the increase in FFM.

I agree the study is not very robust, but the concept of overeating lean protein for FFM gains is rally intriguing. Why not experiment with a 800 kcal surplus of carbs, vs lean protein and see what results you get?

https://youtu.be/DzKGF-10dQs?t=2426

Heres a girl that ate 600-700g of protein a day for 5 months, talking about her results.
