Working up the courage to call OSHA...
We all have a right to a safe workplace.
I wanted to raise a safety and health concern with my employer and now I feel like I’m being retaliated against and treated different. No more future promotions are certainly likely.
Trying to work up the courage to contact OSHA but I don’t know if they will find a loophole to fire me or make my work conditions worse on purpose.
How powerful are these OSHA guys, and can they really protect me? I’m on thin ice here.

Here in Cali, the identity of the complainant is kept confidential. The only thing they can tell the employer is what the complaint is about. I'm not sure how Fed OSHA works thoug.

Is the safety concern trivial, or could it possibly lead to serious injury / death?
If it's the latter, absolutely file a formal complaint with OSHA. You've tried to handle this in house, unsuccessfully. Now you have to deal with a polarizing workplace, which isn't right.
You're employment will be protected by OSHA. Your employer could face a very nasty lawsuit by terminating someone due to reporting unsafe workplace practices.

If youre non union already understand they will be getting rid of you. Its up to you to damage the employer as much as possible through OSHA. If its bad enough they give out massive fines. Usually need someone to get hurt for north of 100k fines though. Some companies never learn and will continue to be **** tier, even if the fines threaten to end their company.

The only time I called osha was when a site, that had 100+ workers, had 1 bathroom which literally had chit overflowing. We called osha, told them it was unacceptable working conditions, and they copped an attitude with us, essentially criticizing us for still being on site. Since that incident and other incidents with other crews where they were bullied/fined by osha reps for not having things like MSDS for fuking silicone caulk, I realized that osha doesn’t give a fuk about your safety.

Haven’t read through everyone itt yet but ime. A few years back I worked at a really unsafe place. There was a fatality and on a diff occasion someone did call them. OSHA cane in on several occasions and basically nothing changed except for on the days OSHA was planned to visit. They did have a few “surprise” visits but it seemed everyone almost always knew when. It’s honestly just not worth it to stay at places like this. Call them and start finding another job ASAP. They don’t care about their workers and prob never will.
This body holding me, be my reminder here that I am not alone.
