How do you keep up with the world ?

Especially if you work in a field where you need to adapt and be up to date on what is new in the world...stuff like technology, legislation, etc.

Sometimes i feel like the world is moving a little to fast and i have some catching up to do.Especially when i am very busy with work and can't look at whats new or what will come. I get too comfortable with what it is and find it harder to adapt to what will be.

On the other side, the more optimistic view is that this is basically the pace of the world and if you have time its easy to keep up to it. The problem is when you don't have time and have to catch up.

What are misc thoughts ? just LDAR and forget about everything ?

not talking about those type of news, i am talking about work related news like the newest innovation in a certain field that you happen to work in.

if you work for someone then yes, then i wouldn't even give a fk if i wasnt chasing a promotion or something but i work for myself and that matters because the mistakes that i make cost me $$.Not only that but if i am not up with the latest tech in my field then i will not be able to get all the customers that i might have been able to get if i had the latest tech.

I'm not tech savvy at all, but I thought you could create your own scraper (RSS feed?) of sites of interest. So maybe you could make one that pulls the latest info from various trade publications/trade forums that pertain to your field which you could scan.

I've recently cracked this open which is on learning how to learn/keeping up with the flood of information. Not too far in yet though.

I dedicate 10-15 minutes morning and afternoon to peek through what's important in my field, mostly using email subscriptions and read columns in Outlook.

AM

Dealbook - NYTimes

In Today's Paper - WSJ stuff

MergerLinks Daily Review

Techmeme - news aggregator for tech, free daily newsletter

r/consulting but you have to weed through the chitposting

PM

McKinsey Insights

Stratechery Daily - Ben Thompson, tech strategy

Matt Levine (Bloomberg) - Money Stuff - Digestible business news in an approachable way.

Heard on the Street / Deals Alert - WSJ

Late evenings I scroll through Twitter to see news and legislative issues. @associatesmind @popehat @greg_doucette mostly.
