I think Kramer was really good in Seinfeld (though George/Jason Alexander was the GOAT), which was sort of a similar style - but he didn't go way overboard with it. Jim was just obnoxious/way over the top, and I really don't understand why Dumb and Dumber is such an iconic movie.

Humor is subjective though.

Just saw Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure for the first time. Dumb as crap, but very enjoyable. I have heard that he is truly a great guy.

X2 on George. George Costanza may be the best comedic character. He was based on Larry David in real life, I believe.

I mostly find Carrey annoying as well, but it's undeniable he is one of the greatest physical comedians of the last 30 years. Kramer is the other one, I would have compared to him as well, but if you think about others doing similar stuff he totally sh*ts on them.
Will Ferrell, Steve Martin, Amy Schumer, Melissa McCarthy, Bill Hader etc. all of them are way worse at their craft than Carrey.

On the other hand slapstick is a pretty lost art in general and old movies beat modern ones in this regard without even trying.
Maybe it's because so many comedians start out as stand up guys.

Speaking of older actors, I forgot how good Steve Martin and Chevy Chase were. Also, John Candy was great.
