Is Metallica the most musically talented band of the last 50 years?

James Hetfield is probably the best rhythm guitarist of all time.

Kirk Hammett is probably top 10 lead guitarist.

Lars Ulrich also is one of the best drummers out there.

Then with James and Lars writing, they come up with some most creative lyrics around from a variety of perspectives.

Metallica has probably the most talented assembled band in the last 50 years, perhaps ever.

Thoughts?

Metallica is aight. Everyone likes to chit on them because they have spent at least 2 decades being immensely wealthy and making pretty standard boomer metal. However they made a few bangers, which is more than most bands ever did, and their longevity speaks to genuine talent.

metalllica is my favorite band. I just relate their music to my life so much. Their old music ranging from kill em' all to AJFA cannot be beat. They are apart of the big 4 and they are the pioneers of thrash metal.

Sorry. But, I hate listening to metal bands who scream into the mic and can't understand a word they say.

3 generations of my family will sit around the table and talk about our mutual love for Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones. I always viewed that as my metric for top tier artists.

Can't talk about Metallica with gramps. (At least in my family.)

Pretense for opinion: Drummer (primarily metal and jazz variants) for coming up on 15 years
Played semi-pro for a few (gigged, nothing serious, but met some decently big named jazz musicians)
Did 2 years of music school before realizing I didn't see it as a viable career path
Still listen to metal

ROFL if you think Metallica is that talented. Influential? Sure, arguments to be made, but raw talent? Not even in the top 100, either individually or as a band.

Not Lars as much. But you don’t have be some monster goofy shredder to put out a great album. I don’t even like that shredder ****. Sounds like elevator music.

That was a cover song, Metallica didn’t write that.

Agreed.

Which speaks even more to how great Hetfield is. Top 10 rhythm guitarist while still singing and having a voice that harmonizes perfectly with the music.
