I feel African Americans have played a major part in America culture. I'd be a hypocrite to sit and eat bbq listening to blues music saying otherwise. The Roman Empire stretched from England all the way to Syria. It encompassed many ethnicity's and was a very diverse Empire. The Romans had a habit of using soldiers from a different part of the Empire to crush rebellions on the other side of the Empire because the solders wouldn't have an emotional attachment to the folks doing the rebellion.

As per the poster you posted. Their could be many reasons why they starred a black actor as Caesar. Maybe they wanted to give him a chance at the role? Maybe he fitted the role well? I mean we have white folks playing the role of historically black characters. It's hard to make a rebuttal with very little information. Maybe he really likes Roman History? For example, I love German history and would love to play the role of a German figure in a movie or play.

Edit: Everyone knows that the real Julius Caesar is white. History isn't being rewritten since it's an established fact that he was a European.

Also he played that role back in 2011-2012.

Mehhhh. Shakespeare's been staged so many different times that you have to do something to spice it up. When Baz Lurhemann made "Romeo + Juliet" the movie, he had Romeo say "Mercutio, bring me my sword!", and some dude hands him a chrome Beretta that he uses to blow up a helicopter, none of y'all we're screaming "that's anachronistic as ****! Berettas weren't made in 1608!"

I would say to stage Othello if you want a black lead in a Shakespeare play, but knowing the lib bent of theater people, that's probably a tired cliche by now. IDK. I don't run in those circles.

They actually did use some black african guards. Whether you want to classify them as "true" Romans is up to you but they were apart of the Roman empire at one point.
