Not that this is a huge concern right now since no country wants to pollute the space around Earth with debris, but still a sign of their ever-increasing capabilities. Judging from tests conducted over the last couple decades, it's safe to say the below is true.
China May Have Operational ASAT Program, Reports Say
China May Have Operational ASAT Program, Reports Say
China appears to have developed at least one and perhaps three direct-ascent anti-satellite (DA-ASAT) programs, one of which appears to have been declared operational, according to a pair of reports issued March 30 on global space threats.
“Chinese DA-ASAT capability against [low Earth orbit] targets is likely mature and may be operationally fielded on mobile launchers,”a report by the Secure World Foundation (SWF) says. “Chinese DA-ASAT capability against deep space targets (medium Earth orbit and geostationary orbit] is likely still in the experimental or development phase, and there is not sufficient evidence to conclude whether it will become an operational capability in the near future.”
The SC-19, also known as the DN-1, is the same kinetic missile that destroyed the Chinese FengYun 1C weather satellite in 2007. The weapon, which appears to be based on the DF-21 road mobile ballistic missile, appears to have been declared operational, according to the SWF report. It was written by Brian Weeden, director of program planning and Victoria Sampson, Washington office director.
The report connects a few dots. In December 2018, the National Air and Space Intelligence Center reported, “China has military units that have begun training with anti-satellite missiles.” And in a statement to the U.S. Senate in January 2019, Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats said China “has an operational ground-based ASAT missile intended to target low Earth orbit satellites.”
Weeden and Sampson conclude that China has probably deployed those anti-satellite systems to at least some units and developed training for their use. But the SWF notes that it has not been confirmed by public reports.
And a report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) adds that records show the Strategic Support Force, established in 2015 to bring outer space, electromagnetic space and cyberspace together under one entity, has begun training specialized units with direct-ascent ASAT weapons that can target satellites in low Earth orbit.
China is also developing other weapons—the DN-2 and DN-3—that could also be used for ASAT purposes or ballistic missile defense. China has not conducted tests that have resulted in debris. But according to the CSIS report, analysts believe that other kinetic physical tests have occurred since the one in 2007. “Missile tests are harder to judge because they could also function as a counterspace capability during times of conflict,” the CSIS report adds.

Research papers point to PLAN’s next-generation submarine technologies
Two Chinese research papers that emerged in early April through social media provide further evidence of significant technological developments that may be incorporated in the design of the next generation of nuclear submarines for China's People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN).
The first paper relates to the "optimisation of submarine vertical missile launchers" and the second to the "analysis of radiated noise of a no-shaft pumpjet". If these papers reflect technology to be incorporated into the third generation of Chinese nuclear-powered submarines it would indicate a much greater advance than was achieved in progressing from the first-generation submarines to the second, namely the Type 093 (Shang)-class nuclear-powered attack submarines (SSNs) and the Type 094 (Jin)-class nuclear-powered ballistic missile-carrying submarines (SSBNs).
The PLAN's concept of operations for nuclear and conventionally powered attack submarines appears to prioritise anti-surface ship warfare (ASuW) over anti-submarine warfare (ASW), so there is widespread anticipation that the next-generation Type 095 SSN will be fitted with vertical launch tubes for anti-ship cruise missiles (ASCMs) and possibly also land-attack cruise missiles (LACMs).
One of the papers that recently emerged had been published in the Ship Science and Technology Journal in April 2017 but other research papers relating to submarine vertical launch systems date back to at least 2005, reflecting that this has been an active area of research for a considerable time.
The capabilities delivered by the US Navy's Virginia-class SSNs, initially configured with 12 individual vertical launch tubes and latterly with two Virginia Payload Tubes capable of supporting the same number of missiles, will have been studied and modelled extensively at the various Chinese naval research institutes and may influence the Type 095 design.
The pumpjet referred to in the second paper, published in the Journal of Ship Mechanics in November 2018, is an alternative to a conventional propeller, consisting of a multi-vaned rotor and a stator within a duct, similar in concept to a single-stage turbine.

China may have conducted banned nuclear test blasts, US says
[ul]Concerns about possible breach of international pact was prompted by activities at Lop Nur site in China
Report, which does not provide evidence of tests, could worsen ties already strained by US claims about Beijing mishandling coronavirus outbreak
[ul]
China may have secretly set off low-level underground nuclear test explosions despite claiming to observe an international pact banning such blasts, the US State Department said in a report on Wednesday that could fuel US-Chinese tensions.
The finding, first reported by The Wall Street Journal, may worsen ties already strained by US charges that the global Covid-19 pandemic resulted from Beijing’s mishandling of a 2019 outbreak of the coronavirus in the city of Wuhan.
US concerns about Beijing’s possible breaches of a “zero yield” standard for test blasts have been prompted by activities at China’s Lop Nur nuclear test site throughout 2019, the State Department report said.
Zero yield refers to a nuclear test in which there is no explosive chain reaction of the type ignited by the detonation of a nuclear warhead.
“China’s possible preparation to operate its Lop Nur test site year-round, its use of explosive containment chambers, extensive excavation activities at Lop Nur and a lack of transparency on its nuclear testing activities … raise concerns regarding its adherence to the zero yield standard,” the report said, without providing evidence of a low-yield test.
Beijing’s lack of transparency included blocking data transmissions from sensors linked to a monitoring centre operated by the international agency that verifies compliance with a treaty banning nuclear test explosions.
The 1996 Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) allows activities designed to ensure the safety of nuclear weapons.
A spokeswoman for the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty Organisation, which verifies compliance with the pact, told The Wall Street Journal there had been no interruptions in data transmissions from China’s five sensor stations since the end of August 2019 following an interruption that began in 2018.
The Chinese embassy in Washington did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Chinese Navy Launches New Assault Carrier
China’s naval capabilities continue to grow at an incredible rate. New classes of warship are being constructed at an impressive rate, vastly modernizing the World’s largest Navy. Today the Chinese Navy has floated a new assault carrier in Shanghai, just yards from its sister ship which caught fire less than 2 weeks ago. The new carrier is the second of the Type-075 class, large amphibious warfare ships. Equivalent to the U.S. Navy’s America class ships, these 40,000 ton ships support troop landings. They will carry an array of helicopters and also hovercraft. Both ships can be seen in the images below:

The launch took place at around 2 pm local time, April 22. Open Source intelligence (OSINT) had indicated the launch was imminent. Two weeks ago Forbes reported on its expected launch using analysis of satellite imagery and photos posted on Chinese social media. The launch may have been delayed when the other carrier, already in the water, caught fire on April 11. But it was unlikely that any delay would be significant as there is already a backlog of work for the floating dock where it has been assembled. There is a guided missile frigate already waiting, in sections, on the quayside.
Defense analysts have been able to track progress on the carrier via candid photographs and overhead satellite imagery. An analysis of crane movements in satellite images showed the level of work in the yard. It appears uninhibited by the coronavirus pandemic.
A few days ago leading indicators of the launch were reinforced when the customary lines of flags adorned the masts. From previous Chinese Navy ceremony preparations, this normally takes place around two days prior to launch. Quickly, via various OSINT sources, the launch date was tied down to April 22. And the time was narrowed down to between 1pm and 2pm. So defense watchers were waiting, monitoring Chinese Social Media.
Right on cue, the enthusiastic residents of Shanghai posted photographs as the ginormous vessel slowly emerge from the flooded dry dock. The event closed traffic on the busy river.
This new ship has been assembled and floated just months after the first was launched in September last year. Several more Type-075s are expected to be built, creating the best equipped amphibious navy after the U.S. Navy. While China has a weaker tradition than European navies such as the United Kingdom, Netherlands, France and Italy, it has an unrivaled production capacity. Regional players such as Australia and South Korea have also been bolstering their assault carrier fleets. Bucking the trend however, India has been reported to be considering cancelling some of its own amphibious warship deals.

China’s long-range Xian H-20 stealth bomber could make its debut this year
[ul]Beijing ‘carefully considering’ unveiling the plane at the Zhuhai Airshow in November at a time of heightened regional tension
H-20 will give China the nuclear triad of submarines, ballistic missiles and bombers
[ul]

China’s new generation strategic bomber is likely to be ready for delivery this year, but Beijing is said to be weighing the impact of its unveiling at a complex time in regional relations due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Military sources said the Xian H-20 supersonic stealth bomber – expected to double the country’s strike range – could make its first public appearance at this year’s Zhuhai Airshow in November, if the pandemic was sufficiently under control.
“The Zhuhai Airshow is expected to become a platform to promote China’s image and its success in pandemic control – telling the outside world that the contagion did not have any big impacts on Chinese defence industry enterprises,” a source said.
But the appearance of the bomber at this year’s air show could heighten tensions by directly threatening countries within its strike range, especially Australia, Japan and the Korean peninsula.
“The Beijing leadership is still carefully considering whether its commission will affect regional balance, especially as regional tensions have been escalating over the Covid-19 pandemic,” another source said.
“Like intercontinental ballistic missiles, all strategic bombers can be used for delivering nuclear weapons … if China claimed it had pursued a national defence policy which is purely defensive in nature, why would it need such an offensive weapon?”

China also has a sizable arsenal of missiles (some nuclear) hidden in vast tunnel systems in its mountainous regions, which is partially why it's hard to verify their true deployed nuclear weapon count.
Chinese Navy Submarines Are Protected By Underground Tunnels

Chinese Navy Submarines Are Protected By Underground Tunnels

China is a maritime nation with over 9,000 miles of coastline, dotted with ports. Compared to most other countries, it has a large number of naval bases. By dispersing its forces across many bases the Chinese Navy, formally known as the PLAN (People’s Liberation Army Navy), is protecting them against surprise attack. But some of it bases go further, offering underground tunnels to protect key warships and submarines.
In the age of precision strike cruise missiles and bunker buster bombs, tunnels may seem an outdated idea. But they still provide cover against some air attack and, perhaps more importantly, prying eyes. And they can also protect against nuclear attack, provided it is not a direct hit.
China's tend to be built directly into rocky outcrops which may provide many feet of overhead protection. The entrance is usually facing inland (but with water access) so that it is harder to hit from offshore.
The best known of these tunnels are two which protect the strategic submarine force. One built at Jianggezhuang Naval Base (36° 6'20.76"N, 120°35'2.39"E) near Qingdao provides a hiding place for ballistic missile submarines based there. And more recently one has been built at Yulin (18°12'8.97"N, 109°41'39.34"E). This is where a new base for nuclear submarines was constructed around 12 years ago. Yulin allows Chinese submarines (and aircraft carriers) easy access to the South China Sea, an important operating area.
Some other PLAN bases also have tunnels which are less well known. The submarine base on Xiachuan Dao has a small tunnel just inside the harbor wall (21°35'45.08"N, 112°33'5.14"E). And a shipyard where large warships and submarines are repaired, near the submarine base at Xiangshan, also has a tunnel (29°31'41.09"N, 121°41'16.98"E).
There are other tunnels which are physically removed from any naval bases. These may provide more dispersed protection, although it is also possible that some are not Navy related. For example there is quite a large tunnel in a mountain on an island south of Shipuzhen (29°11'2.75"N, 121°56'35.68"E). There is a missile boat squadron nearby, but the tunnel appears separate from any PLAN naval base. Other less obvious tunnels include some near Daishan (30°15'40.61"N, 122°19'1.43"E), and along the coast from of Yalin (18°15'42.67"N, 109°43'41.13"E).
China's tunnels are an interesting difference from U.S. Navy doctrine. They may provide some degree of protection against an unexpected attack. And they likely increase the survival of PLAN submarines in longer wars.
The PLAN is not alone in valuing the defensive strength of rock. The Swedish Navy recently announced that it would reopen its Cold War super-base at Muskö outside Stockholm. That site can house several submarines or warships and has maintenance facilities. Other countries which appear to have submarine tunnels include Taiwan, North Korea and Iran.

China fires its latest underwater nuclear missile into spotlight with science prize
JL-3 could reach the United States if launched from Chinese coast
Type 096 submarines expected to be armed with the missiles

Researchers involved in the development of China’s most advanced submarine-launched nuclear missile, the JL-3, have been recognised in one of the country’s top science awards.
The team that worked on the “underwater-launched large solid-fuel carrier rocket”, or SLBM, is among the 10 nominated to receive a National Award for Excellence in Innovation.
China has not officially confirmed it is developing the JL-3 – or Big Wave – missile, but the Chinese navy has tested it, as reported by the South China Morning Post.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Rocket Force is developing its third-generation SLBM JL-3, with a range of over 12,000km (7,450 miles), far enough to hit the United States if the missile was launched from the Chinese coast. China conducted a few test flights in 2018 and 2019.
Chinese military observers have said the missile tests were in response to US President Donald Trump’s targeting of China in his deterrence strategy.
This missile’s predecessor, JL-2, which had a range of 7,400km (4,600 miles), was deployed on Type 094A nuclear submarines for operational patrol in 2015, signalling that China finally had a credible sea-based nuclear capability.
The new intercontinental-range solid-fuel JL-3 is estimated to be fully integrated with the next-generation submarine Type 096 in 2025.
Its last test, in December, was conducted using the Type 094 nuclear submarine, but the Chinese military plans to arm the Type 096 submarine with the missiles, a process that could take years to complete.
Personnel working on the “hypersonic pre-cooled aerospace engine” and “vehicle system for high-speed interconnection in space” – for space station docking – were also nominated.
Last year, the revelation of China’s DF-17 missiles represented the world’s first hypersonic glider weapons in service. But the DF-17 is believed to be propelled by a traditional rocket engine before its payload-carrying vehicle enters unpowered glide.

China’s stealth fighter goes into mass production after thrust upgrade
A modified version of China’s first stealth fighter jet, the J-20, has formally entered mass production, with upgrades earning it a place as a fifth-generation fighter jet, according to a military source close to the project.
The moment was marked at a ceremonial unveiling of the modified J-20B stealth fighter jet on Wednesday attended by many senior military leaders including Central Military Commission (CMC) vice-chairman General Zhang Youxia, the source said.
Zhang is the second-ranked vice-chairman of the CMC and is in charge of weapons development for the People’s Liberation Army.
“Mass production of the J-20B started on Wednesday. It has finally become a complete stealth fighter jet, with its agility meeting the original criteria,” the source said.
“The most significant change to the fighter jet is that it is now equipped with thrust vector control.”
Thrust vector control (TVC) allows pilots to better control the aircraft by redirecting engine thrust.
In 2018, China debuted its J-10C multirole fighter – fitted with a WS-10 Taihang engine – at the China air show in Zhuhai, putting the aircraft through its paces in a performance that indicated that China had succeeded in thrust technology.
While the TVC technology had been applied to the stealth fighter, the J-20B would still use Russian Saturn AL-31 engines because more work needed to be done on China’s WS-15 engine, the source said.
Chinese engineers have been developing high-thrust turbofan WS-15 engines for the J-20, but that work has fallen behind schedule.
“The Chinese engine designed for the J-20s still failed to meet requirements, but its development is going quite smoothly, and it may be ready in the next one or two years,” the source said.
“The ultimate goal is to equip the J-20B fighter jets with domestic engines.”
China was thought to have built about 50 J-20s by the end of 2019, but problems with the jets’ engines delayed further production plans.

Next gen fighter jet forthcoming in great power competition: J-20 chief designer
https://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1195803.shtml
A revolutionary, cognition-subverting next generation fighter jet, characterized by long-range, high capabilities in penetration, awareness, firepower and fast decision-making, is about to come into being amid great power competition, according to a recent paper by the chief designer of China's J-20 stealth fighter jet.
Artificial intelligence is a key field to help pilots process vast information and make decisions in complicated battlefield environments, it said.
Amid great power competition and the commissioning of more and more fourth generation fighter jets (or fifth generation under US classification, which includes China's J-20, US' F-22 and F-35), there have been extensive discussions on the changes in types of warfare, and the development of post-fourth generation fighter jets, said Yang Wei of Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC), in a paper published in Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica, a Chinese monthly journal on aeronautics, last month.
Yang is the chief designer of China's first fourth generation fighter jet, the J-20.
In the paper, Yang said that in older generations of fighter jets, maneuverability used to be the deciding factor, but this concept is becoming outdated with the development of advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles with their beyond-visual-range attack capabilities.
Information has now become the deciding factor, as modern fighter jets focus on gaining more information with the help of AESA radars and data chains, while also reducing opponents' ability to gain information, including using stealth technology and electronic countermeasures.
When aircraft can get more information with these advanced devices, pilots must have extensive knowledge, sharp analysis and sound decision-making to put them to use.
Yang said artificial intelligence will help pilots process the information, and help them become mission objective-oriented.
Each step in the original observe-orient-decide-act (OODA) loop in the air combat decision-making process will feature artificial intelligence's assistance, the paper said. "Intelligence becoming the deciding factor" will be the essence of what Yang calls an OODA 3.0.
Citing foreign projects, Yang said that a future fighter jet will generally require a longer combat range, longer endurance, stronger stealth capability, a larger load of air-to-air and air-to-surface weapons, and the functionality to provide its pilot with easy-to-understand battlefield situation images and predictions. In an integrated system, the aircraft should be able to form a network, draw real-time integrated situational images, create multiple attack routes, and transmit target information across mission areas in real time.
Yang's vision could indicate what China's future fighter jet might be like, a Chinese military expert told the Global Times on Monday under the condition of anonymity.
Usually the Chinese military simultaneously equips a current generation of weapons, develops a next generation, and conducts pre-study on a further generation at the same time. So as J-20s are being commissioned into the Chinese Air Force, the next generation fighter jet must have already started development, the expert said.
China is eyeing to develop a next generation fighter jet by 2035 or earlier, which could feature laser, adaptive engines and the ability to command drones, reports in early 2019 quoted Wang Haifeng, another senior designer at AVIC who participated in the development of the J-20 and J-10 fighter jets, as saying.

Chinese shipbuilder planning advanced amphibious assault ship

A Chinese shipbuilder is planning to build a more powerful amphibious assault ship that would be able to carry more helicopters and drones and help the country’s marine corps to fight more effectively on the high seas.
The ship would have a similar design to the Type 075 landing helicopter deck, but it would be equipped with an electromagnetic catapult launch system of the type that is currently only found on the most advanced aircraft carriers.
News about the proposal of the new design, which shipbuilders and military enthusiasts have called the Type 076, has been circulating on military websites since the start of the month.
Military observers said the plans, from the China Shipbuilding Group, the main government contractor, have not yet been approved by the leadership and work on the new ships will take at least five years.
One naval commentator, Li Jie, said the ship would not be designed with a possible attack on Taiwan in mind, instead its “combat role would focus on the high seas when China is facing territorial challenges from rival claimants in the region”.
China is involved in a series of territorial disputes in the South and East China Seas and the US has stepped up its presence in the area in recent years.
The new design will allow it to carry more helicopters, rotor-wing drones and hovercraft, according to military analysts.
A report in the Chinese military magazine Ordnance Industry Science Technology last Thursday said this will allow the marine corps to expand its combat range and air defences over a wider area.
The warship would have an estimated displacement of about 40,000 tonnes and will be China’s largest – and the world’s third largest – amphibious assault ship, behind the US Wasp-class and America class.
It will be able to carry up to 30 helicopters, as well as a number of amphibious tanks, armoured vehicles, boats, and hundreds of marine troops for land attacks and follow-up ground operations.https://www.scmp.com/news/china/mili...s-assault-ship

China Deployed Bombers To South China Sea Island For The First Time According To Image

A new photo indicates that China has deployed at least one H-6J missile-carrying bomber to Woody Island in the northern portion of the South China Sea for the first time ever. If confirmed, the forward-deployment of Chinese heavy aviation assets there would be a significant addition to the forces the country already has in the region and could present new challenges for potential opponents in the region, such as the United States.
One of the first mentions of the apparent deployment was on the Chinese Military Aviation blog, which said only that it took place in August 2020. A photo subsequently emerged online showing ground crew attending to an unarmed H-6J apparently soon after it arrived at Woody Island, which is located around 200 miles south of Hainan Island. While it’s not been possible to verify the date of the image, it certainly appears to have been taken at this location.
It's also not clear whether this was the only H-6J to touch down on Woody Island or if it is part of a group of bombers that made the trip. Regardless, actually landing at the island outpost is a significant development that could point to plans for more regular deployments in the future.
Back in May 2018, a People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) H-6K made what looked like a touch-and-go landing at Woody Island. This earlier mission indicated that the base was capable of handling larger aircraft, although there’s no evidence that the twin-jet aircraft actually landed on that occasion.https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zon...rding-to-image
Chinese Z-10A Attack Helicopter Shows Off New Missile During Live-Fire Exercise

Video has emerged from China showing Z-10A attack helicopters from the People’s Liberation Army Ground Force launching what’s reportedly a new type of missile during a live-fire exercise. The footage appeared online after screengrabs showing the new air-to-surface weapon were posted on social media last week. These first images originated from the state-owned China Central Television 13 (CCTV 13) channel and showed crews loading the missiles onto four-round racks on the Z-10A’s outboard stub-wing hardpoints before they were launched at an undisclosed location.
The missiles engaged a variety of armored vehicle targets, including tanks. The range at which these were knocked out is likely indicative of a fire-and-forget weapon and the use of Z-10As in combination with at least one Z-19A suggests that the latter type may have provided targeting data using its mast-mounted millimeter-wave (MMW) radar, forming a hunter-killer team.
Interestingly, China military expert Andreas Rupprecht, who goes by @RupprechtDeino on Twitter, has suggested that the weapon may already have completed its development and is now in frontline use — or, at least, is undergoing the final phase of pre-service trials.
The anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) bears some resemblance to the China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) Blue Arrow 21 (BA-21), a weapon that’s thought to have a range of around 11 miles and guidance based on a dual-mode millimeter-wave radar/semi-active laser seeker.https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zon...-fire-exercise

Chinese state broadcaster reveals details of new airborne weapon Tianlei 500 as tensions simmer with Taiwan

Chinese state media has revealed details of the PLA’s new airborne munitions dispenser and how it can be used to attack targets, amid worsening tensions between Beijing and Taipei.
Footage and new details of the Tianlei 500 – a 500kg precision-guided munitions dispenser and air-to-surface missile – featured in a defence programme on state broadcaster CCTV-7 on Friday.
The dispenser has wings and a square cross-section to hold submunitions, which can also reduce its radar cross-section to boost its stealth capability and make it harder to intercept, according to the report.
Its wings can provide extra lift and give the weapon a range of more than 60km (37 miles), meaning it can be dropped at a safe distance from the enemy.https://www.scmp.com/news/china/mili...irborne-weapon

What’s the point of this thread? China is allowed to have an army, they are a big country. Of course they will be powerful. It still pales in comparison to the US Army. No need to fear monger.
The USA’s risk of decline comes from within, not from anywhere else. When you have a population believing things like QAnon and voting in a complete imbecile like Trump as President our enemies know they won’t have to fire a shot. They can sit back and watch us self destruct.

Pentagon Report: China Now Has World’s Largest Navy as Beijing Expands Military Influence

China is bent on creating a world-class military that can conduct joint operations across the globe and already boasts the world’s largest navy, according to the Pentagon’s latest annual assessment of the Chinese military.
A “permanent condition of military inferiority is anathema” to China’s leadership and nowhere is that more obvious in its naval build-up, Chad Sbragia, deputy assistant secretary of defense for China, said during a Tuesday American Enterprise Institute forum.
The Chinese Communist Party “has become increasingly confident [of] achieving its goal” of having “a world-class military by 2049.” A key component has been China’s continuing maritime build-up from its surface forces to ballistic missile submarines. He said its fleet numbers 350 warships compared to the United States’ 293.
“I would also draw your attention to weapons systems and it’s important to highlight the Chinese shipbuilding advantages in terms of its size of the fleet, is both in context of the broader modernization ambitions, virtual class military. This is a long-term challenge and it’s not only demarcated by a single variable, which would be total number of vessels, tonnage capacity, capabilities, location, posture, activities, and then other aspects,” he told a small group of reporters in a Pentagon briefing.
Sbragia said the Pentagon expects the Chinese fleet will number 360 warships by the end of this decade.
He added in the AEI forum that Beijing with its new confidence has become “more assertive” in its territorial disputes with its neighbors — from India to Taiwan to the South China Sea.
While “numbers are only one element” in measuring military power, China is also testing its far seas reach in exploring potential bases from Myanmar to Africa and South America.
“The global PLA military logistics network could interfere with U.S. military operations and those of our allies and provide flexibility to support offensive operations against the United States,” he told the reporters.
At the AEI event, he added Beijing is also continuing to raise its defense spending across the board — from missiles to nuclear forces to space. He said the report expects that Beijing will double its nuclear stockpile of 200 weapons over the next 10 years. “The number of warheads is not the whole picture,” he said. The investments are also being put into submarines, air-launched cruise missiles, modified bombers, “the full suite and capacity” of its nuclear program.
The report “points out that China’s near-complete lack of transparency over its nuclear forces raised legitimate questions over China’s intent as it fields larger and more capable nuclear forces. And this includes the near completion of what we consider to be a triad capacity, which would include those land-based kinds of capabilities,” Sbragia said at the Pentagon. He mentioned more road-based missile-launchers and building ground-based silos.

If Trump wins, time to de-couple from China and continue creating new supply chains. It can be done.

Chinese Nuke Arsenal Next on Beijing’s ‘To-Do’ List, US Commander Warns

WASHINGTON - The commander in charge of the U.S. military’s nuclear arsenal has warned that increasing China’s nuclear stockpile is “next” on Beijing’s “to-do list.”
Speaking Monday to reporters at the Pentagon, U.S. Strategic Command chief Adm. Charles Richard said that while the United States has “no margin” of error left to start recapitalizing its nuclear force,China has a proven record of steadily building its military. He cited the example of how Beijing has built more than 250 ships for the country’s newly established coast guard in just the past seven years.
“When China sets its mind to something, they are very impressive in their ability to go accomplish it,” Richard said. “Their strategic forces are next on their to do list, right, and I'm trying to posture us for the threat that we're going to face, not the one that we have today.”
The U.S. can deliver a nuclear strike by sea, air and land through submarines, aircraft and intercontinental ballistic missiles, a capability often referred to as the nuclear triad.
Earlier this month, a Pentagon report raised concern about China’s pursuit of a nuclear triad while predicting that Beijing will “at least double” the size of its nuclear warhead stockpile over the next decade. There was no response from the Chinese government.
According to the Pentagon’s annual “China Military Power” report to Congress, which was released September 1, in the past 15 years the Chinese navy has constructed 12 nuclear submarines, six of which provide China’s first “credible, sea-based nuclear deterrent.” By the mid-2020s it will likely build a new, guided-missile nuclear attack submarine that could provide a secret land-attack option if equipped with land-attack cruise missiles.
'Watershed moment'
[color=red]“I get apprehensive that we are not fully conscious as a nation of the threats that we face. [color]China now has the capability … to directly threaten our homeland from a ballistic missile submarine. That's a pretty watershed moment,” Richard said Monday.
China lacks the ability to launch nuclear weapons from the air, but the Pentagon report said the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) publicly revealed the H-6N bomber as its first nuclear capable air-to-air refueling bomber late last year.
The report disclosed that the number of Chinese nuclear warheads is currently estimated to be slightly more than 200 and includes those that can be fitted to ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States. It was the first time the Pentagon has stated a specific number of Chinese warheads.
The Federation of American Scientists says an estimated 3,800 warheads are in active status in the U.S. nuclear arsenal. The number would still dwarf the Chinese arsenal.https://www.voanews.com/usa/chinese-...dT8um0YkOk5q9E

It's pretty insane the timelines that naval development runs on. My brother is in the Navy and involved with ship readiness and they work on things for years getting them battle ready.

China launches largest maritime patrol ship amid rising regional tensions
Vessel will be used to manage and control maritime traffic, help with emergency support and safeguard nation’s interests, transport ministry says
It could also be used to boost so-called grey zone tactics in contested waters, according to analyst

China launched a new maritime patrol vessel on Tuesday – the largest and most advanced to join its civilian fleet – as tensions rise between Beijing and its neighbours over the disputed South China Sea
.
The Haixun09 – meaning “sea patrol” – is big enough to accommodate several types of helicopters and will be able to handle rough seas and strong winds, its chief engineer Yan Peibo told state-run China National Radio.
With a displacement of 10,700 tonnes, it is larger than the navy’s Type 052 guided-missile destroyers that accompany its aircraft carriers, and analysts say it could be used to assert Beijing’s territorial claims in the South China Sea.
The Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration will manage the 165-metre vessel, which can sail more than 10,000 nautical miles at an economical speed of 16 knots and will be able to make voyages of more than 90 days, according to the report.
“The Haixun09 will strengthen China’s management and control of maritime traffic, help with emergency support, ensure that maritime transport is safe and unimpeded … and safeguard China’s maritime interests,” said Cao Desheng, director of the transport ministry’s Maritime Affairs Bureau.
