No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

I went on a diet in October 2013 and lost fifty pounds within a year. I went from 254 pounds down to 204 pounds. This was when I lived with my cousin Vangie and her husband. We got evicted at the end of 2014, so I had to move in with my Aunt.

I lived with my Aunt, my cousin Josie, and my cousin Josie’s boyfriend since January 2015. All groceries I bought were for everyone, according to the rules my Aunt laid down. When I shopped at Costco, I had to buy toilet paper, paper towels, kitchen trash bags, dish soap, sponges, gallon Ziplok bags, and laundry soap. This left me with very little money for food.

My other cousin Vangie who didn’t live with us would take some of the supplies I bought, and my cousin Josie’s 20-something daughter would take supplies, so I was supplying three households. Nobody ever replaced what they took.

Nobody else bought groceries; my cousin Josie and her boyfriend ate fast food, in addition to eating my groceries. In a period of a year and a half, she bought groceries three times. If I bought two pounds of roast beef from the supermarket deli, suddenly, everyone was in the mood for a roast beef sandwich until it was gone. My Aunt stayed at her boyfriend’s house four days a week, so once in a blue moon she would buy some groceries.

I found that I would run out of nutritious foods the second half of the month. It was impossible to eat healthy under these conditions, and I continued to regain weight. The only reason I was staying there was to finish college. I graduated in 2018, and finally moved out this summer.

Hopefully, I can start living a healthier lifestyle. I bought a 25 pound dumbbell at Walmart the other day, for $26 plus tax. I’ve gotten back into working out and eating healthy.
