I switched to a home setup in my cramped 1 bedroom apartment back in April when all the COVID chit hit.

I'm still trying to figure out how to keep limber - I need a bigger space so I can start doing yoga again or something. I didn't know this would be a problem until I had already been working out like this for a few months.

I go on short walks every day too, but I think going from spending 90% of my time now just walking from my bed to couch or my work desk and the other 10% just lifting semi-heavy is not doing any benefits for my joints. I feel more stiff and achey than I ever have.

Exactly the same situation for me. Poverty amount of floor space, working from home since March and I struggle to even sit cross legged on the floor now. Neck is also super stiff.
If you can't handle me when I'm incel, you don't deserve me when I'm chad

Same man. I even play tennis once a week but then the muscles are already tight when I start and after the session it feels like it has just gotten beat up instead of becoming more flexible (what I had hoped)

lift 4x/week and am behind the computer 5 days/wk

Edit: tight lower back and neck, and painful tiny muscle under right trapezius

I stretch every night after my walk. I also rigged up my monitors so I can stand for part of my work day and I'll randomly stretch throughout the day when my legs or back feels stiff.

I should look into standing desks and see if I can afford one when I move into my house in October.

Yeah, I'm in a condo so don't have room for an actual desk. I've been using my dining room table and I just put my monitors on a stack of cook books and a box in order to stand up and work. I put my keyboard on an aerobic step. My friends boyfriend is supposed to be making me wooden stands for the monitors. I need to check in with him and see if he finished them.

DIY monitor stands shouldn't be too hard to construct. And yeah that sounds pretty uncomfortable/obnoxious.

The deciding factor for me pulling the trigger on a house was my girlfriend adopting a dog last month. So now I'm trying to shove a home gym, myself, girlfriend, and a black mouth cur inside a single bedroom 3rd floor apartment...

No thx Jeff. Lease was up for renewal in November, so good timing.

Yeah, it's a pain. He works a ton so will need to check in and see if he finished them. Will definitely make things easier.

I hear you on the 3rd floor apt living. On 3rd floor as well. Mine is a 2 bedroom at least and has a decent amount of living space between the living room and dining room but is in no way roomy. Congrats on the house! That will be so great and having a yard for your pup is a huge bonus.

Keeping Strength or Good Shape is one thing, while Keeping Flexibility is another thing.

This is my smalltorture chamber!!

(Left) This stretching eases mysciatic nerve pain.

Losing flexibility is Far More Serious Problems than Losing Strength especially at my age.

And thanks to COVID, WFH doesn't help either.......

Thanks all and good info Kaz. Inspiring setup.

What I take from this all is that flexibility can't be overlooked and requires its own regimen. Gotta give it time, attention and dedication especially if your work is sedentary.

I'm gonna try to program some daily stretches, building up to being able to do a split or something

You might wish to take a look at mobility workouts too, like:

I overlooked stretching and mobility work for a long time and this had a detrimental impact on my lifts and QoL. Now I do serious warmups at the gym (full body) before even starting my lifting routine. Before I'd get in, warm up with low weight, then bang out a workout.

Good luck!

I used to be super stiff in terms of flexibility. My hip flexors/hamstrings were really tight. Consistent stretching for 15 minutes, 3 times a week will help a lot.

I used this video until I memorized the stretches.

Damn man, massive respect. Going to keep this in mind and get serious about my stretching regimen once I move.
