Why do Non american/Canadian english speakers pronounce NIKE wrong?

I've heard British and Australian people pronounce it Nik or NIGHK dropping the E. What gives? Why can't you *******s say it properly?

My gf is European and fits this criteria. I never miss an opportunity to tell her she sounds like a ******* when she says Nike.

Because it is the only logical way of pronouncing it. NIKE like BIKE, MIKE, etc. If you *******s were to write NikÉ, we'd say it like you do.

Our commercials on TV say "nigh-kee"

I've never heard anyone say "nigh-k"....but I have heard "knee-kay" (yes, like the Japanese stock exchange, lol)

Nike was named after the Greek goddess of victory, Nike (Νίκη).

Classical Greek names ending in -e in English are pronounced as an -ee, they are not silent. Nike has the -e pronounced, for the same reason that Hermione, Danae, and Zoe do. As do Aphrodite, Circe, Hecate, Persephone, Phoebe, Psyche, and Selene.

You're from the states, they're going to be pronounced right.I've heard knee-kay a few times. Nigh-k is how eurocels pronounce it. Yet get all pissy when you can't pronounce their gibberish.

Because it's not Nikee or Nikey, or Nykee etc. I have no problem with people saying it that way, but sounds more like slang or a casual nickname for it to me. It's Nike.

The name Mikey doesn't exist outside of America. People from outside it aren't able to say Nike phonetically correct. Kinda like rolling r's in romantic languages, it is very tough once you get to a certain age.

Thats not quite right. It's easy to say, it just doesn't sound right. Making an "ee" noise is not like rolling rs, otherwise we wouldn't be able to say key.

technically all english speakers are pronouncing it wrong.

the word comes from ancient greek and its pronounced "Nee-kay"
