A white Nebraska bar owner who was charged with manslaughter over the shooting of a black man during a chaotic night of George Floyd protests in May has been found dead from suicide.

Jake Gardner, an ex-Marine, was indicted by a grand jury for fatally shooting 22-year-old James Scurlock in Omaha on May 30.

On Friday, a judge signed paperwork to issue an arrest warrant for Gardner.

He was supposed to turn himself in on Sunday - but was found dead near Portland, Oregon.

He didn't murder anyone, lol. He merely cleaned up his street of some garbage.

It was a justified shoot as was determined by the district attorney. Only because of political pressure was he charged.

Um no, the DA chose to investigate it more. Agrand jurydecided there was enough evidence to charge him.

Technically he did defend himself but based on the factors, it was not self defense under the law.

Him and his father antagonized the group...the father had assaulted someone from a article that posted on here earlier.

He brandished his weapon.

He fired warning shots. (this alone can be enough to send you away for years)


You CAN disqualify yourself from self defense claims in certain situations which seems like what happened.


I wonder if they would release any of the evidence they did find.

Also from the brief video that was uploaded, it shows him brandishing his gun...he fires shots, at which point someone chokes him from behind and he kills that guy.


If I walk up to someone point my gun, fire shots and a bystander attacks me and I "defend" myself...it's not going to be self defense. Lots of factors involved in the case.

But at the end of the day, the classic misc saying goes...play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Don't go look for trouble and be surprised when trouble finds you.

There's a such thing as raising the use of force, so if I call you a *******, that may provoke you, but that does not give you the right to raise the use of force, so if you then hit me, that also does not give me the right to raise the use of force and shoot you, but from my understanding the black chap got the white chap in a choke hold, and as we all know besides ******** overdose choke holds are the second most dangerous move one can do to a brotha, so if the white guy then shot the black guy, it could be anybody's game.

This is only a response to your claim that you can't call self defense on a situation you provoked. And of course all of this can be different based off location, how good the prosecutor is, how good your lawyer is, how the judge is etc.
