Back in the gym after 4 years off (srs) (reps)
Well brahs after a couple of false starts I'm happy to say I'm back in the gym after a very long break (would not recommend, srs).
What's made the difference this time? Honestly a big part of it is that I bought in some whey, creatine and a multivit, new training clothes, etc. Seeing that stuff in the apartment again motivates me to get back in the iron mill and not let it go to waste. That, and stopping prioritising my career so much to the point that I can't find time to take care of myself. I'm determined not to go there again! Fuark.
Some random stats:
- Last entry in training diary: 2016.
- THEN: Max pullups 17. NOW: 1 (fukkin lol).
- THEN: Max 10-rep bench: 225. NOW: 155.
- THEN: Dip belt: best friend. NOW: Alien object.
Gym-wise I'm going very steady and slowly for now. Eventually I'll get back into powerlifting and lower rep ranges, but I'm not in a rush. Need to establish a base level of fitness first.
Diet-wise I'm following a tweaked version of an old cut diet to get down in weight. I'm 220lbs which is a normal enough weight for me, but the make-up of that has changed a lot (before perhaps 12% bf, now probably 20%+).
Wish me luck on resuming my journey to swoleness brahs. It's never too late! Let's see how much muscle memory will help me out.

This was me in March. Feels amazing brah. I probably made more progress in these last 6 months than I did in my first year of lifting. Your gains will come back quicker than you realize. Just stick with it.

Cracked two ribs, took a few weeks or a month off. Immediately got a concussion (through a helmet) skating a half pipe on my first or second session trying to get back into it.
Started dating someone after, board then sat in my closet for 3 years. I skated damn near every day before that lol.

At best I'm currently rocking a good 'dad bod'. Grip strength is still really good though, I carried on playing around with grippers at work as a stress-reliever haha.Originally Posted By Celsus⏩

Busted out my old ipod from back in the day so I have training music from 2010-2016, nothing newer than that. Even have a Zyzz setlist from some time he was on radio, RIP.This was me in March. Best part (I think) is I've not told my gf that I'm back in the gym (she lives in another country, we see each other every 3-4 weeks). Hope she doesn't think I hopped on a bike

Moving to a quieter town next month that has a really good local skatepark, and now that the weather will be better (cooler) in Texas, I'm planning on trying to break the rust loose this winter.

I had 10 years off.
Been back at it for just over 2 years now. Not as strong as I used to be but I'm 12 years older, leaner and not eating 5k+ calories a day this time around.
Good luck

My max pull-up was 22 and also set a PR power clean 315lb in 2019.
Took one year off and started lifting again 2 weeks ago.
Managed 3 pullups and 135lb clean felt heavy LOL (oh and barely managed to do 5 proper pushups)
Up to 7 pullups and 30 pushups in 2 weeks tho.

I did gain size and strength rapidly, but looking back I was a fat fuk too (looked good with shirt on, not so good with it off).
I'm 40 this year and like you my focus is on maintaining a reasonable bf level. I spent the first year losing 12 years worth of pud, then the last year bulking, but this time tracking my weight and calories religiously.
This time around I notice I'm much more prone to injury, which given I'm lifting no way near as heavy as I once did, I can only put down to age.
