Bigger bullet is certainly better for hunting since the bear will bleed out faster, but for defense, you're dead if you only hit a charging bear in the lungs, so it doesn't really matter unless it's a cannon.

ive heard it said that bears wont be immediately stopped by one round, but multiple rounds will stop them.

but i would imagine that having a bear charge at you would be stressful and you could easily miss with a pistol. something like a semi auto rifle would probably work better

I've linked to the research a bunch. Basically any handgun caliber is 95% effective, historically, at stopping bear attacks.

Bears don't like being shot

I mean yea, 15 rounds of 10mm is superior to 15 rounds of 9 for sure.

I’d rather have 17 rounds of 9mm then 6 44 mag tho

lol, 20 rounds of .308 would fuk up a bear. then poke it after its dead just for good measure

yea, that would make sense. still though, id much rather have something more powerful than 9mm if i were going into an area where i could potentially get charged by a bear.

typically revolvers have terrible, heavy triggers on them, it would be damn near impossible to accurately mag dump one without having trained alot. and with .44 mag ammo being so expensive it just makes sense to practice with something like a glock instead and not even bother with magnum revolvers unless its just for having fun at the range.

not practical though, if you are just having a little stroll in the woods taking a hike, you aren't going to have an m14 strapped to your wasteband unless your name is farley1324.
Realistically, if you are in this situation, hope you have a 9 with some good HPs.

Article I was reading said heavier grain fmj is superior because it penetrates more. I’m not a scientist though.

Would you really want hollow points loaded though if you’re anticipating defense against a bear?

Well, Farles . . . I finally got some karma payback on someone shipping me more than I ordered by mistake. It wasn't N95 masks, though. I had ordered and paid for a 3/4" ball valve for a plumbing project (qty 1) and the supply house sent me the box of 10 that was the added option (about $120 more than I ordered).

So, I guess that's great . . . although not sure what I'll ever do with 9 spare 3/4" ball valves. LOL.

So, I've got a line on some defensive ammo. Can basically as much 147g Ranger T ammo as I want for 45 cents per round. I don't even know if it's decent ammo, and normally I'd never carry 147g. But for that price in this market, I'm tempted to just buy a couple thousand rounds.
