If I can lift more than someone at the gym, does that make stronger than them IRL?
Like I know lots of tall people who I arm wrestled and almost fought with. They were stronger even though they look skinny asf. I could also lift way more than them at the gym. They were literally bench pressing no more than 135. But this was in high school and they would be way stronger than me. The thing is my forearms and wrists aren’t the biggest. And theirs are quite firm and thick. So that could be a factor. Is it possible to overcome that and have more in real life strength?
What’s the best way to know if you’re stronger than someone? Without fighting them ofc.
Like if I take their approximate lean body mass and compare it to mine, would that be accurate in determining their actual functional strength?

There are a some factors, your gym workout might not show you like grip strength or wrist stability. You might have weak points, which might be holding you back in the real world. Someone might just be more trained to apply his strength in an everyday context due being a tradie and carrying a lot of stuff at home.
I for example have weak and skinny unstable wrists, despite being a relatively big guy, which when grappling with mates, makes it really hard for me to use my arm strength despite having overall bigger arms than them and easily being able to win a curl contest for example.
I have grappled with a former powerlifter, who squatted 465 @ 155 bodyweight, which is way above my pathetic liftime PR of 330 @ 240, but when it comes to running into each other, during a standup I can still overpower him using mass vs his jacked quads.
(Though a 135 bench is a joke anyways and both are likely still mostly adapting their CNS to benching and not using their full muscles anyways, so it does not tell much about their actual strength limits yet.)

and a 5ft6 120 lbs guy benches 135, then i think the smaller guy is stronger per pound.
Although he might be less strong overall.

There are a lot of variables you can’t take into consideration by just looking at someone. Take a set of twins (both guys) one could do a hundred pushups every morning, and the other doesn’t.
The push-up guy might be a lot stronger than you, assuming you don’t work out as hard as him. The other guy, basically built the same as his brother, you could easily overpower.
Bottom line, you can’t tell how strong someone is just by looking at them.

Therefore regardless of weight; tall guy has to move a longer distance = more work done = more muscle tissue recruited to move said distance
When it comes to situations like the OP is talking about, i.e 1 on 1 situations, relative strength is meaningless, and it favors smaller individuals anyway which is why we have wilks.

strength is specific to the feat you are performing.
if you are stronger at the bench press, you are just that, you are stronger at the bench press than them.
fighting involves a lot more than just strength, it's using leverages and technique to your advantage as well as strength.
strength is the foundation for most sports but if you lack skill and technique it's useless at worst and highly inefficient at best.
if you want to become a better arm wrestler. Simply arm wrestle and train movements that have carry over to arm wrestling.
this video for example. In a real arm-wrestling match, Thor would get absolutely destroyed by the other guy in the vid and probably tear Thor's rotator cuff. Despite being the "strongest man in the world". Because one is a world class arm-wrestler that trains arm-wrestling, one isn't. You get better and stronger at movements you practice. Some are just naturally better at it than others. Namek lands on Goku.
