Anyone sick of lifting?

I reached all the milestones I wanted to achieve when I first started lifting.

-405lb squat (470lb PR)
-225lb snatch (245lb PR)
-275lb clean (315lb power clean PR)
-15 pullups (22 pullups PR)

Honestly can't be fuked to lift srsly anymore.

Planning on going back to training martial arts within a week.

What motivates you?

For me, it was all about improving my athleticism and strength. Hard to motivate myself since I surpassed most of my goals and chasing bigger numbers doesn't really do it for me anymore.

Looking good is great but I don't feel great about myself when I'm not becoming more athletic at the same time.

I thought about adding martial arts, but then I realized I wanted to lift more than going back to the dumb body weight exercises with all the rep counting out loud and drills that never actually gave me an edge in real fights.

Huh? Are you saying calisthenics training doesn't give you an edge in real fights? Or are you saying martial art doesn't?

Sometimes it's literally the best part of my day. Congrats on hitting your milestones. Maybe switch up your program/routine?

Look decent enough compared to most people I'd say.

I just always mired athleticism over muscle even when I was a skinnyfat DYEL twink.

I suppose lifting alone doesn't quite align with what I value the most.

Wanting to age well and look good motivates me. Knowing that I'm not going to be a frail granny falling and breaking my bones motivates me. That's great that you surpassed your goals. I think as long as you're doing something to physically better yourself it doesn't matter if it's lifting or martial arts or some other form of workout.

Hm yeah I suppose.

Now that I think about it, I think covid def had a big impact on my motivation.

For me, a big part of going to the gym was lifting with like-minded people and shooting the chit with bros in between sets.

Now that there's a strict time limit and everyone's wearing a mask, the social aspect is completely gone, and I kinda miss that.

Maybe it might have helped a little, but a lost fight is a lost fight. I was just as raped after my training as before. No glorious karate kid moments for me, which is a shame because no pity exists for folks who are weaker. Especially in the misc where females are supposed to have bigger dinks than the men and win every fight or else they "deserved it." Sickening.
If karate is more fun for you, do what feels right. I just can't imagine leaving the gym for a dojo.

So much this. .

My doc has told me many times that it has kept me healthier than I would have been had I not kept with it.

I don't give a single fuk about amount of weight. I do it to feel strong and to look good. There have definitely been times when I got a bit burned out and slacked off, but then I lose gains and immediately go back to lifting.

Honestly, the mental health benefits of lifting are as important as anything else to me. I was literally going crazy during lockdowns and on the verge of breaking down.

I mean my PR on bench at this point was in 1994. If I was only chasing beating my bench record I would have quit 20 years ago. You can always find something new to PR on though. I mean with martial arts there are all kinds of conditioning PRs you can chase.

I reached that point two years ago and switched to calisthenics and handbalancing. Working out is actually fun as fuk now
There and back again twice, a deep red's tale.

I've been in a few fights at a bar (other dudes always threw the first punch) since I trained Muay Thai and BJJ, and my training definitely made a difference.

Lol at traditional martial arts.

I remember lifting in the 80's. My Buddy's basement who lived in an apartment complex. We got too strong for the weights we could afford so we filled milk jugs full of pebbles we scooped up in the parking lot and tied the jugs to the end of the barbell. His super religious mom made us return the pebbles we "stole." SRS.
Don't put that on me Ricky Bobby, don't you ever put that on me.
