Yeah, I say go for it! Would have to eat like a savage and probably get a bit chubby but who cares. My dad hit a 4 plate bench at 5’10” 230 natty...obviously not lean whatsoever haha

Assuming you have average lifting genetics and you're in your prime - you could probably eventually hit 405 without turning into a total fatasss if you put a ton of effort into it for a long time. Let me tell you, going from 315 to 405 is like 10x harder than going from 225 to 315.

I've known some guys who were just freaks of nature when it came to lifting who managed to hit a 405 bench even before leaving high school if they dedicated themselves to it for 3-4 years during that time, while staying natty. However, for most people, getting to a 405+ bench as a natty is a huge pain in the asss. Especially if you aren't willing to go full bloatlord status to get there. It's going to be a hell of a grind.

In all honest though, I wouldn't worry about it so much unless you plan on competing. I am a firm believer that lifting heavy on a regular basis (2-3 working sets in the 3-5 rep range for each lift per workout in addition to higher rep warm ups sets) is the best way for a natty to bodybuild/work on physique, so I'm by no means against lifting heavy. That said, unless you have freakish benching genetics and power lifting is your specific goal, your attention would probably be spent better focusing on other things more.

Work up to easily repping 140lb+ DB's for bench and it'll do 5x more for your phyisique than just flat benching 405. Seriously, it's crazy how different the lifts are just by forcing you to use more stabilizer muscles with DB's than BB benching. Think of how many fat fuks you've seen BB benching anywhere near the 405+ range. Then compare it to the guys you see repping out the heaviest DB's in the gym. Not many lardballs are doing it on DB's.

Sure why not.

I hit it pretty quickly natty without any real programming but was 275+.

Not to diminish Drew’s lift in any way (srs), but he’s a geared lifter. That’s not what OP is talking about.

I've got to 365 @205. I'm comfortable sitting at 185 so I don't see myself ever getting near 405 ever.

You're delusional if you really believe someone benched 500+ at 220 as a natty. You really believe a guy threw up 2.27x their bodyweight as a pure natty. Come on, breh. Get real. 90% of people would never make it to 405 as lifetime natties unless they go bloat status and dedicate a ton of effort to it. Yet you think someone is throwing up 500+ at a lean weight without gear. lmao

405 natty is when you have to take an honest look at your genetics. If you hit 315 under two years, you'll probably hit 405. If it took you longer than that, 405 probably isn't in the cards.

Keep in mind that there are people on dat dere who won't hit 405. Most guys are not built for it.

I never made it to 3 plates and gave up. Was never lifting for strength, anyways. I got good numbers on my squat and deadlifts but bench was always something that I wasn't strong at.

If you think it's worth it then by all means. Might take a lot of work and a lot of excess cals.

405 natty is possible but your whole workout is going to have to revolve around it.

Seen a guy win a bet by doing albeit not fully touching his cheast. He was around 230 maybe 18% bf @ 5'9 or 5'8. He was natty then and jumped onto the gear a couple of month later making insane physique gains insane physique gains in a short time.
Never seen anyone else even nonnatty get remotely close.

It's not worth pursuing, unless it's something that means a lot to you. Since you are posing the question, I'm guessing it's not an important goal l for you.
Will being able to bench that much change your life? In a world full of juice heads, will anyone care about your pretty good for a natty lift stat?
What are the chances of injuring yourself while pursuing this goal? Is it worth a trip to snap city?
I don't know man, these are things you gotta ask yourself, but hey it's just advice. You can do whatever the FUDGE you wanna do!

The most realistic post ITT. lol @ people who think that you can achieve a 405 bench with hard work and dedication with average genetics. If the average lifter can get to a 405 bench then why are they nowhere near that strong? inb4 they weren't lifting long enough or hard enough

Yeah, it's possible. I hit 405 as a natty, and I legit was only 181 pounds at the time. I have short arms, though,. Ainoway I could do it now because I tore my pec later that year. I'd be scared to go over 315 (and that's as high as I've gone since then too).

well how much you can lift is highly correlated with bw. That's especially true for bench, so saying this guy will have to gain a bunch of weight in order to push 100 more lbs is accurate.

The average guy won't get there, sure. But wouldn't someone who has good genetics still take 5-10 years to hit 4 plates? Look at Candito. That guy's probably got a decade of training under his belt and just recently hit 405, granted he's not super heavy but still.

that point about snap city is a really good one. Injuries aren't always worth it especially if you aren't planning to compete.

Someone with good genetics could definitely get to a 405 bench. Most lifters don't have the genetics for it, though.

he did it equipped. his raw bench is 365lbs

I do know one natural with a 500lb bench at 240lb natural but he has freak of nature genetics. One of those guys repping 315 within their first year at the gym and naturally lean. used to play D1 football too. it’s genetics and work ethic at the end of the day.
