Or in other words about .00014% of the global population. Wow, how will we ever recover.

1 million people isn't a small amount of people though, is it?

If an outbreak kills 1 million people who cares if that's a small percentage? It's still a lot of people.

This is horrible. She should shut down all toilets. Think about it, you can't die of the effects of diareah if you have nowhere to poop. Make everyone wear diapers just in case.

China is either lying bc large populated countries should all be at the top of the list especially since the virus originated from said country

or

China is telling the truth in not all deaths are actually caused by Covid

Yeah it's a lot of people but this is a perspective thing. For example tuberculosis killed 1.5 million people in 2018 and kills them year after year after year. Covid should taper off into obscurity. So especially we'll get a little 1-2 year blip from COVID and then it's essentially gone.

More perspective: For example any given random year multiple millions of people die from the various respiratory infections.

Any proof that they actually died from it, or that it contributed to their deaths? All I've seen is a ton of reports of people dying who also happened to have it.

I bet they also had cavities, should we list dental problems as a cause of death too? What about baldness, I bet a ton were bald.

How dare you? China had only 89k cases, that's why their death rates are so low. Just like the radiation at Chernobyl was only 3.6 roentgen

Yes and no, its all a matter of perspective. In the grand scheme of things its right on par with dangerous things that are psychologically normalized by society. The only reason anyone gives a chit is because its new and being fear mongered. Once the initial shock wears off no one will care.

I like how some people play mental gymnastics and use the "well X million die from cancer and heart disease each year why should we fear COVID if it kills another 2 million"

The virus exists, but it is true that the majority of people who die from it have an average of 2.6 comorbidities and are old. Obesity is also a risk factor. However, it can still mess you up if you're young and healthy. I have a close friend in her 30s who got Covid, recovered, but still has very little sense of smell and taste.

And for those showing statistics on other causes of death - yeah, there are plenty of other things that have a higher likelihood of killing you, but there's no point in adding more to that list, even if the mortaiity rate is low. It's easy to talk chit when nobody close to you has died from it, but when your grandmother - or even an old parent - who you love very much dies 5 years earlier than they would have without Covid, that might give you a new perspective on things.

What if someone close to you with an underlying condition died from Covid this year, when they might have been able to live another 3-5 years? Wouldn't that be kinda sad?

realistically, most these people would have died either way, im not gonna ask the entire world to go on lockdown and mask up. Covid isn't a harmful virus, thats just the facts.

Appeal to emotion is a logical fallacy. Being sad about a personal loss has no bearing on how dangerous or not dangerous something is in the grand scheme of things.

This

No one ever thinks about the impact. The millions of people losing their businesses, the mental health implications etc.

Bottom line is people think you're going to walk out your door, catch Corona and be severely affected or die. A massively high percentage of people get it, experience nothing at all and are fine. In my country a high amount of seniors already in long term care homes (so barely able to function anyway) died, which honestly relieves a lot of the burden on the system and families. Yes, it's tragic, but they died now instead of 2-3 years from now.

In my city there's been 4300 cases in a population of over a million since the beginning six months ago. 285 deaths, all but 3 of which were over the age of 60. That's an incredibly low amount considering the impact it has had on society.

Meanwhile millions are in severe financial hardship, families are screwed when it comes to education and people still think that the odds are super high they are going to get it. I appreciate the severity of the disease and its' impact on the world, but shutting everything down was far worse in my opinion.
