American Murder: The Family Next Door on Netflix

So I watched this yesterday. The only exposure I had to this case were body language videos on YouTube and the cell phone video the Miss Piggy looking friend shot with the body cam cop when she first came up missing. Is it just me, or did the documentary successfully show this chick Shanann to be a colossal pain in the arse? I'm not saying at all that her husband should've killed her and it was absolutely monstrous what he did to those children. Watching the documentary though, it seems like brah was super henpecked, started tapping that strange and fookin lost it. Sad af

I watched it as well. I thought it was an excellently done documentary. And I agree, plenty of reasons to show maybe why the guy wanted a divorce (Didn't seem thrilled about the recent pregnancy so I doubt another child was discussed) but with all that said, there is still no excuse for what he did ... none.

And the two children still being alive while the mom was dead in the backseat of the truck is just heart wrenching. That's a whole different level of cruel. Guy should be killed by Lethal Injection.

I watched it, and I had already seen most of that footage on YT. There's a guy on YT called Jim Can't Swim and he analyses all the answers and body language during police interrogations and really lets you make sense of them. Here's part 1 of his video on Christ Watts:

The guy was super dumb. He agreed to a polygraph, then confessed to his dad while on camera. He should have asked for a lawyer right away and he probably would have gotten away with it. Just sayin...

I didn't really see a point to the doc, there is nothing in the documentary that I didn't already see, there are so many videos I watched it all already.

That chit was heart wrenching to hear, but I don't buy it. I honestly think he killed the kids while his wife was off at that pyramid scheme convention.

As I'm down this rabbit hole I'm seeing a lot of people make this argument. idk if he would get away with it, but lesser sentence potentially.

So did I. It's like she was addicted to social media. The full Santa video from the documentary is really cringe.

Her social media habits were cringe. I could never be married to someone like that honestly. I wouldn't kill them (I'm not a pyscho) but I could definitely see a divorce in the future.

The documentary was alright. There was sooooo much footage that came out almost right away, the only new footage they had on Netflix was basically shannans social media posts and home video.

So, if you watched and followed since the interrogation footage was released and alot of youtuvers put out info then its boring.

Also a way better video is the one where the YouTube breaks down evvvveeything even the moment he realizes on his neighbors camera that he's busted.

Had never heard of the case until I saw the Netflix doc. It was interesting. I thought the footage was all fake at one point... had to look it up. She put way too much chit out there on the Internet.

It's crazy going back and seeing the body cam footage of him walking around with the cop after you realize he's the murderer. The dude has a deer in the headlights look the entire time.

i knew the story and the outcome yet still loved the doc. shows it was well done.

she was indeed very 'extra' with the social media. huge massive turnoff but nobody made this dude marry her and have 3 kids with her. he knew what he got into.

makes you wonder what the weight loss and change in lifestyle did for him + other mental health aspects of it. breaking up is one thing but the decision "i know what i'll do, i'll kill them and live a new life" is a wild one.

A lot of great footage in that documentary. Some misc tier thoughts below:

- Doc did as hard a job as possible making the wife look sympathetic, but was clearly a nutcase. Involved in MLM, had the mentality towards relationships like a teenager, and the nonstop social media stuff (the santa scene where he was dressed up and still getting berated was sad). Obviously doesnt deserve what happened but just a trashy couple.

- Didnt go over their financial health but were living clearly well beyond their means. Likely again, due to the wife (built this house with my own hands at 25) lol wtf. Then again, the neighbor also had a nice house and also looked like a WWE supporter

- Guy screamed someone with no life experience. Was a pasty doughboy reaching out to girls on ******** and being a persistent loser. Wife said 'has a job where he's respected now which is big' aka likely some low tier wage slave before that. Also wife make all decisions in the relationship. Guy just seemed checked out and would rather agree then put his foot down - know a lot of guys like that. All that said, looked completely different when he slimmed down and did a wardrobe 180 - actually was a good looking dude. IDK what caused that - seemed like someone who found the red pill srs but just happened to also be a sociopath. But likely had a bunch of slowly built up resentment and wanted to lead/start a new life.

- Guy a strong moron. Someone in a relationship getting fit, having an affair, and pushing loved ones away happens all the time. Get a divorce dude. Worst case is you have split weekend custody, pay some child support, but get to live the new life. Gave away all the tells when around police. Seeing the purse, watching the vid from his neighbors camera. Caving in immediately with the polygraph test (hell even agreeing to the polygraph test). If he was smart he'd say "I understand based on the history of cases like these that you are looking at me like a suspect, I dont feel comfortable doing anything like that and know their evidence is pretty inaccurate", "I want a lawyer", etc. I mean dude thought you could tell gender from a pregnancy test - what lol

- the stats at the end about domestic violence basically seemed written by a man hater. Imagine someone ending a documentary and doing that on something like religion, race, etc. Just more Netflix bias

All in all good doc though but will be an evening ruiner

No, the kids were alive when he left the house, he’s saying you can see the shadow of one of the daughters before he puts her in the truck.

All I'm gleaning from the murder docs on Netflix is that people sympathize with the killer...

So Netflix also has normalizing murder on the agenda. Just lol.

Super creepy situation.

They seemed like the normal American family. Normal guy with infidelity issues, crazy controlling wife, two cute kids.

99.9% of marriages like this end in divorce where the guy starts dating a 22 year old and the mom starts banging Tyrones in the house her ex is paying for while both still loving their kids.

The fact that he went off and murdered all 3 was a glitch in the Matrix.

The guy is a piece of ****, but unlike other murderers I genuinely believe this haunts him everyday in prison.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

Just watched it after everyone kept telling me to. Had no knowledge of the case or footage so it was a really good watch. The actual case is pretty straight forward, no jaw dropping twists or mysteries or anything. Later that same day the dude pretty much gives away that he's guilty with his emotionless response to everything. But it was cool having everything on footage right from their marriage, to the lead up to the incident, bodycam footage, then investigation, court etc. Good doc.

Pretty creepy watching some of the earlier footage where it seems like he is a normal, loving dad. I can almost comprehend him offing his wife from a psychological perspective but damn, hearing him recall how he drove his kids an hour out to murder them and it didn't give him any pause - chilling. Something tells me though this does actually haunt him every day now and he isn't completely indifferent to it like some serial killers are.

can easily see how his wife would make you slowly build resentment over time until snapping though.

- debt (from trying to look wealthy)
- lives a lie (social media for everything)
- ugly
- petty (acting like a high schooler to her friend about relationship issues)
- controlling

not an excuse though. Think the guy seemed like a stereotypical reserved beta 'nice guy' with zero dating experience and got in over his head but wasnt enough of a man to do anything about it so it just built over time. He found his confidence and personality late in life (getting fit, doing hiking/sandboarding with new chick, better sense of style and grooming) and wanted a restart but felt trapped. Dont think he's methodical or even that crazy at all, just a loser who boiled over. Dumbass didnt realize divorce wouldve solved everything
