I think playing video games are one of the worst things you can let your kid do

Its especially worse if kids start playing when young. There's been studies where playing video games will literally rewire your brain and the instant dopamine release is addicting. I've also noticed that people who didn't play videogames in my life usually developed some cool/interesting hobbies while the gamers would be boring af and usually perform worse in school and have worse social skills. I also pretty much spent my entire life playing videogames and i think I would have been a much better person overall if i never touched them. When i was little i remember when i played a new game even if i was just limited for two hours a day, it was all my brain could think of and when I would get my next "dose".

I used to think like you. Then I became not a ***got. Now I embrace video games as one of my hobbies since I actually enjoy playing them.

This is probably true. You eventually get bored of it as you get older, but that instant dopamine addiction just finds other avenues like porn or even just youtube vids.

It desensitizes you to other interesting things. When you have something like videogames, everything else in comparison becomes more boring.

Played video games since 6, turned out more intelligent and productive than the vast majority of the population. Explain OP.

Played varsity sports in HS all seasons, 3.5 plus GPA, got two BS degrees, EE and Chem. Good job in EE. Wife, house, kids, etc.

Good genetics? Some people are affected more than others. For example, i can't see myself ever getting addicted to alcohol/drugs while others cant control themselves.

if you are that worried, teach your kiddoes to play complex strategy games or if you hate your child and want him to give him a taste of how chitty RL can be - sign them up for Eve Online.

I don't see a problem with video game as long as they have a story and an ending.

It's those MMORPG and FPS game that are endless and can suck 10 hours of your day.

All you *******s need to get off your high horse. People like you will read chitty fictional novels or watch reality tv shows but then chit on people that play video games. There is no correlation between video games and any of the chit that you mentioned unless you game 24/7 but that can be said for anything that you do all day long. I wish I had more time to game with my friends but unfortunately I don't at this time. And it's ironic that you say gamers don't develop hobbies or interests when in reality its the judgmental phucks that always are watching what others are doing that lack any real substance in life

Precisely this- Endless games that you can play mindlessly and que up game after game, or mobile games that inspire dopamine rushes and spending cash are a world apart from a game you sit down and play through over the course of 10-40 hours.

Of course you need a lot of other things in your life, but when you look at people consumed by gaming you aren't seeing them ruin their lives playing dark souls, its usually WoW, league of legends etc.

100% agree had a buddy who was really into video games when I was in elementary school and it wasn't around middle to end of middle school to earlier high school when I started realizing all I did was played video games and had very little social interaction and was a complete autist and I am 23 and finally starting to recover and gain hobbies and improve my social skills absolutely brutal I really enjoyed them but I just had an epiphany that it wasn't how I wanted to live my life. I miss playing them and at friends house I still will but so glad I stopped.

this, I think video games that require you to solve certain puzzles, put two and two together, think of certain strategies in order to overcome a boss or something. however games nowadays have gotten easier and more carebear.

games like ocarina of time or more strategy based like fire emblem

at the end of the day a good mixture of both sports and limited video game time is best, but video games are completely replaceable with other things

The one pal of mine I can think of who never gamed is pretty much top of his med school class, athletic, tons of friends and pulls sloots with ease. Sort of a chicken or the egg question though (I.e. maybe he never gamed because he always had other things going on)

I think it's great that you are figuring out what you enjoy and interests you. With that said, I think that just because you don't get pleasure or reward from something doesn't mean that it should be written off as useless or even detrimental to everyone. I personally can't squat heavy due to two partially torn menisci so I do not reap any rewards from this exercise while others do so it would be unfair for me to write off squatting as a useless exercise.

If your games do not look like this, you are doing it wrong. Games are not supposed to be fun.

Good for you dude, but for every 1 guy like you there's thousands that sit around and rot playing video games and working some dead end job just to get by. I have a bunch of friends from high school like that.
