Smart marketing, more fat than fit people and fat people love wearing gym clothes.

On the other hand the gym shark hate is not because of them now marketing towards bigger people. Its hated because they represent everything that is wrong with the fitness community. Overpriced clothing and it attracts the worst kind of people that dont care about working out. They just want attention and to make everything a fashion statement.

I'm talking about in general. Fat shaming is one of the worst things you can do these days and although I do agree that you shouldn't hate or discriminate against someone based on their physical appearance I believe that it also shouldn't be glamorized. Plus sized models are popping up everywhere and are constantly being pushed in your face via advertisements. It's just wrong to advertise 300+lb women as something younger girls should strive for. Yeah but that has nothing to do with a business trying to make profit. If most Americans are overweight, why would a clothing company make clothes only for small people if only ten percent of population is able to buy them? To me it doesn't make any sense. I don't even find any clothes for my size because I'm short. All the clothes are made for 5'7 120lbs. models. What sense does it make, when average woman is 5'4 170lbs. ?

They are a fitness brand. How many fatties are going to be consistent in the gym? Enough to buy gymshark for years to come?


They were better off marketing to teens that are into fitness.

I get that but then don't market yourself as a fitness brand geared towards athletes and active people. It's great that the people in the OP are taking the necessary steps to better themselves but they shouldn't be used as models for a company that caters to the fitness community. Fitness and obesity to not go hand in hand.

Gym shark was always dumb. Lululemon is a lot better, but they recently said that they’re making larger sizes so they’re going to go downhill now.

What made those brands popular and successful wasn’t because they marketed to fat people. They put an image that good looking, fit, people wore their clothes. It made them look more elite.

Now that it opens up to all sizes, it’s not as elite - everyone has it, so it loses it value.

People that are good looking and fit, are going to look at different brands to differentiate themselves from the masses. As a result Gymshark will decline, and eventually end up sold at Ross.

Lol, I can't imagine masses thinking some clothing company is elite cos they feature some juiced up hotties on their Instagram but I guess they are younger and more impressionable people that care about that.

How about buying stuff that fits you the best whatever the brand is? That is literally the only reason I buy any clothes. I would buy gymshark all day long if I thought they'd fit well and don't give a vagina bulge.

But I do find it interesting whoever in the company decided to go that route. Also, the "wokeness" they display is weird. Where did it come from and who decided that..we will see what happens..maybe this is their way of making everyone talk about them. Rarely any other clothing company gets this kind of press.

It's really not a weird concept. Right now wearing a business suit looks fancy. You see someone wear a designer suit and you think he's rich, successful. There's a certain air to it.

Now imagine if literally everyone wore a suit every day. Even the most poverty people and somehow designer suits would become so cheap that it's afforable to the poorest people.
How do you think people would look at designer suits now? Do you still think it portrays an aura of success, wealth etc?
Or will it become the new wife beater in terms of stigma?

That's how gymshark was. It catered to fake natties and people with great physiques.
And as a gym goer, you want to wear that brand because you want to give off the same vibe.
That vibe will no longer exist when they keep catering to fatties or make pregnancy clothing.
