Eric 'Natty King' Bugenhagen says complete isolation exercises are a waste of time

Cliffs:

- Single joint isos like concentration curls are a waste of time
- Barbell/cheat curls are better as you hit the biceps along with working your back/traps etc as they get involved too
- Rather than 3 sets of concentration, spider and another curl variation, do 9 sets of barbell curls
- Machines are good for injury rehab etc but free weight, multi-joint isolations are better bang for your buck

Thoughts?

I really don't know what to believe. Some just say "im a bodybuilder, not a weight lifter. Do 1000 different light weight isolations." Others are like "Lift heavy compounds only. Progressive overload! Hip drauve!"

I think it also matters whether or not you're enhanced and a lot of people fail to take this into account.

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks of that when they hear the name Bugenhagen.

Thoughts? Thought you said multi-joint isolations. Checked twice. Yup, you did.

I don’t necessarily disagree with him, tbh. But machines can have their place, especially cables. Cheat curls can fuk up a lot of people’s wrist/elbows/shoulders. I’m not a fan of a lot of volume/variety for arms for natty lifters. Using a cheat curl to hit your back and traps is a waste of time. Okay, guess I disagree with him a lot.

Edit: @ 8:50 he talks about a football team switching to machines and performance suffering. That was Penn State.

You have to understand that he's not a bodybuilder. His content is primarily for people who are athletes. For this reason, I would agree with him. Pure isolation, single joint, exercises are really for those who are bodybuilders, which is fine. Everyone else would see better results doing non-single joint exercises such as those he listed.
