Its ok misc, he deserves what happened to him

I initiated the divorce by kicking her out and telling her to file in two weeks or I would file. She did not cheat she just went fuking crazy (as all women do after 40). She always talked about how horrible it is when a man files and since I could care less I offered her a chance to save face.

I found a book one of her friends had given her by one of the top divorce attorneys in the state. I pulled a Tony Soprano and went and retained her before she did. ;-) She got another attorney and asked for two more weeks to file.

We kept our finances pretty much separate and divided the bills (fairly I thought) between us. It ended up I was paying for much more of the load than she was and she was able to stash away $100k without me knowing. She was an RN and made decent money.

We settled at the settlement conference with the judge without a trial. The $100k went into the settlement. I got the most important stuff: paid off house, dog, guns and home gym. My attorney was much better that hers. She still refers to my attorney as that fuking bitch.

They didn’t have a proper discussion before marriage or a plan to pay it off once they got married. He did it to himself (srs). They’re gonna have a lot of problems in the future. I’m 99% against divorce. He dun goofed.

Better to pay of off now that accrue more interest. Your married. That interest is yours too.

In on important self reminder about life thread.

Don't marry someone unless:

1) They make close to your income level at least (+-20%), if not more than you

2) They have no debts, or if they do, they clearly have been working on it with an effort

3) They convey and act similarly to your own ideal financial habits (could be coupon usage, could be paying off debt above the minimum, could be investing related, could be eating at home more than eating out/delivery, etc.)

4) You sign a pre-nup and marry in a state/country where the law actually acknowledges it

5) You've tried living together for a number of years

In a perfect world with a perfect spouse there is a net benefit to marriage. Tax breaks, household stability if you have a kid, combined incomes to easily tackle CoL and grow the net worth, etc. But if you're not on the same page financially, chit like what occurred in the OP happens lying, cheating, divorce, and multiple years of financial saving/investing/planning thrown down the drain.

In my opinion if there is a massive discrepancy in salary or net worth. Its an indicator that one party is more intelligent/motivated/driven/disciplined then the other. In that case the lesser party should never have access to or be able to control the others finances. At that point you aren't an equal partner in the marriage. Not even close, you take a back seat to all financial decisions and are along for the ride.

As far as how things are divied up it just depends. If people earn a similar salary it should be 50/50. In your case its not very practical that it be 50/50. So it could probable be scaled percentage of bills to income in a fair manner.

I have a massive issue with the way divorce settlements are handled. I'm sorry but fukking and living with a successful person shouldn't entitle you to a portion of their wealth if you didn't have a hand in building it. If its two equal people that got married and build wealth together, sure, 50/50.

If I go into a marriage with a 1 million dollar net worth and my spouse goes in with a 100k net worth. And over the course of a 20 year marriage we scale that to 10 million net worth. She's should be entitled the 10% she brought to the table, not 50%. Unless she is able to provide that she brought more to the table in order to build a large net worth.

Just my opinion of what's fair. If I marry some chick that has 4x my net worth I wouldn't expect to take half her schit or run her finances.

best course of action now is to take a 50k loan out in her name then divorce.

brb questioning how I would even attempt to expose this prior to a divorce settlement.

Thats because you think like a man while women think like women.

The same moment a man has been dismissed from her life he is only an object from whom anything possible has to be taken, we see this basically in any divorce where she often lies to get the kids and as much money as possible even if such lies could lead him to jail.

A man has the violence and brutality to wage war but only a woman has the poison to harm an injured defenceless one.
