Which is why I’m surprised it’s not damn near standard to have a larger gas tank and a home generator. Seems like basic necessities to me. Where I live almost everyone owns a 1-2000+ gallon propane tank

I don't have a generator but if its looking like its going to be out awhile I'm going get one and a couple of window units to pop into my house. Even if I gotta drive 2-4 hours North to find one.

No freaking way I'm sweating for days on end.

It really is on gulf coast. I've been lazy about getting one because we haven't had issues with hurricanes in awhile here.

Easily going to be the next modification on my house when I have some more expendable money. Even with a 500 gallon tank, that chit would last forever.

Beauregard Electric Company (my provider), put out a map with designated areas they feel will lose power. I’m in that area.

The “grid” is still fragile and hasn’t been completely fixed since Laura, even though power has been restored. I have a window unit, but since summer broke I am not too worried about A/C. I have the generator in my RV, and a power inverter for the Jeep. I can easily run my fridge, charge the electronics, and a few more small things. I have a washer/dryer in the RV, so I just use that for clothes. I still don’t want to run out of power. A month and a half ago, having no hot water heater was fine. Not so much now. I could shower in the RV, but water pressure in that thing sucks.

I just really don’t want it to go out again. On the bright side, my electric bill last month was like 50 bucks lol. But I more than made up the difference with buying fuel for the generators.

I will get the gas tank and generator for sure one day. The thing about buying one of those and doing the work, is that it doesn’t happen enough for us to be so uncomfortable we want to make that change. I’m lazy too, and for the most part, it never happens. So short term, it doesn’t make us feel the need to use the resources to get it.

But man, even in just one hurricane, it would be worth it. Even if that next catastrophic (which is how I would refer to Laura and her impact here) is not for another 30 years. It would be worth it.

here is a helicity map, it shows the likelihood of upper level air coming to the lower level which increases the chances of tornadoes significantly.

It is picking up a little here. I think this may not be as strong as Laura, but will last a bit long. I’m reading we could have Tropical Storm force winds into the morning.

Man, my garbage was supposed to come yesterday and it still hasn’t come. They did the same thing with Laura. About an hour after I pulled the cans back up the driveway to secure them, these fools went by. I had to run to the neighbors house and catch them and ask them to come back. They did which was cool.

I’m gonna wait a little longer, probably into noon or noon thirty, then bring them back in and strap them down.

I called the office and of course they are not there.

I feel it is worth pointing out the biggest pain in my ass is the garbage lol. Or maybe I’m just using that as a point of focus to deter me from worse thought processes.

I have a go bag in the Jeep, I’m leaving the keys in the ignition and it has everything I would need in it. I’ll sleep with clothes on Incase I need to roll out. The only real scenario I could see needing to do that though is a direct or near miss of a tornado. Which means I probably wouldn’t have a Jeep anyway lol.

Oh man what a time to be sober. I can feel all the feels.

Louisiana in general can sink into the ocean and we'd all be better off for it.

Right along with California.

Thanks for the update.

We still have some here from Missouri and another state or two as they were not quite done yet.

These guys are the real heroes lol. I have read some horror stories about people hooking their house up to personal power, but not isolating themselves from the grid, putting power out in the lines and really putting these guys at risk. Man I felt bad for them after Laura because it was so hot out. However, I’m under the impression their compensation more than made up for it. This is all anecdotal of course, I’m ignorant about their operations.

Lol, LA is the only southern state that has culture of its own.

All the rest of south knows is what gauge lynching rope is most effective, drunk driving, God (but only when people are looking), and billions of dollars for hand egg.

good news is that it is starting to weaken "winds wise" already. This will probably come in as low grade Cat 2. YOu will have lower winds, but they can still wreck pretty bad. but the issue will be surge and rainfall and flooding.

Strong everything.

LA has drive through liquor stores for Christ sake, not only tons of churches but catholic one's on top of that, I can tell you've never been to LSU tailgate as those fans are just as rabid as every other SEC base if not more so, Saint's fans are way wilder than any other southern NFL teams fan base and you might outta look up lynching statistics before throwing stones at other states

My stepdad used to be lineman and he would get sent off to work storms and they worked the dogchit outta him. I've heard the pay can be good but with his company he just got regular overtime/double time for storm work and absolutely hated having to go

Sad to say but that ship has sailed brother. Having such wildly different political views and being forced into voting in the same elections has made us all hate each other. The only path toward reconciliation is a drastic decrease in federal power. I wouldn't have any animosity toward New Yorkers or Californians if they didn't effect my life personally

That sucks. After Laura me and my GF wanted to bring the guys on our street some beer and locally smoked boudin. Probably will this time. I didn’t think it was such a thankless job.

They don’t get per diem or anything?

They got per diem but it was something pitiful like $75 per day. Not worth the insane work load and dangerous conditions. Had to feel nice helping people though since we have needed help from others cause of storms

Yeah, after Laura the general population really tried to show support for them. I mean, nice things written on your car windows won’t put money in their pockets, but I hope they know their personal sacrifices are appreciated.
