Not gonna lie, I like his cookbook and 3-day split program, but JFL at Greg coddling every obese instathot for virtue signalling body positivity and thinking Gymshark including obese models is a good business move.

Your market share will be capped if your target demo is solely gymbro and gymette people. Expanding that to a wider array of the market to include the casual fitness market will increase your market share.

Sure worked great for Victoria's Secret, right?

If it was that easy, every fitness brand would be doing it. But it's not that straightforward--if 80% of your business is generated by 20% of serious gym-goers, how much of that business do you lose when you go mainstream? Further, what's the retention rate of mainstream customers when you're also competing with Lululemon, Nike, etc.? How well do their instagram likes on their obese models actually translate to sales? Will the new sales just be a short term bump, or last longer? etc. etc.

It's aspirational. People want to be inspired by people who are in amazing shape. It shows you what's possible. It tells you that if that person can get in that great of shape, you can at least stop being fat.

Idrgaf about whether Gymshark's making good business moves, but to OP's other point, he's taking an instagram post (of all things) for its text value and acting if just the text was what people were arguing about when it obviously wasn't.

I think there'd be way less of the "normalizing obesity" comments if the text wasn't over a heavy chick, and if was over a varbie, the entire message would be different ("it's okay to not look like me" instead of "it's okay to look like me"). That kind of makes Greg's response coddling to me; he pretends the MAGA weirdos' argument is weaker than in actuality.
