Safe travels.

Wind and precipitation are picking up quite a bit here. (A little north of Lake Charles).

I have CCTV cameras but they are not on backup power. I have a couple gopros I’m charging. I should be able to get some good footage for you guys.

Edit: oh and it has been downgraded to CAT 2.

Thanks for the link man. Sucks for tire. I keep plugs in the Jeep and have an on board air system. I fix tires all day. (Mostly other stranded travelers), only used it on my own Jeep once.

Still appreciate the feed

I’m going to have to start carrying some around. Have you ridden out a hurricane before?

I sat through Laura.

I stayed at a friends house right up the street. We went outside often to just check on it throughout the night. I’m just staying at my house this time. No trees close to my house.

I feel the biggest threat is the very low (but slightly elevated) chance of a tornado.

Me and my gf packed some essentials, put a mattress in our closet and ran some drills. If needed, all we have to do is get in the Jeep and go. (When it is safe to come out of our makeshift bunker).

I fully intend on simply unpacking in the morning though.

It isn’t crazy yet. Sustained winds at about 35-40 mph. Constant rain, but it is pretty moderate. Not heavy, not sure what the exact measurement is.

Winds speeds are from the weather channel.

A lot of the tops of trees are bending up to about 45 degrees here. They will be on the ground by sunset.

The rain is coming down pretty steady now. I felt some hail earlier.

We are in getting close to the inner bands.

I’m just north of Lake Charles. In the attached picture, you can see how the storm is developing with respect to where LC is.

Man, my electricity has cut off and on so many times. It keeps giving me hope. I just wish it would go out already lol.

I have the sliding glass door on my covered porch open and I can hear the trees cracking as they break.

It still isn’t super crazy. I mean we are waterlogged and trees are breaking. But I’m not extremely uncomfortable on my porch or anything.

Probably just complacency.

Wind gusts are significant. Obviously, trees are breaking.

And power is out.

I just went on a fun little adventure.

A couple of my neighbors horses got free through a gate that opened. They ran back inside. I went over there and secured the gate with a bungee cord.

It was about a quarter mile jog, tried staying out from under the trees. Rain coming in hard ass waves and wind howling loud af. A little excitement lol.

Total success.

No power no though.

It was bound to happen.

I have a good set of power cells charged up.

Also, a power inverter running off the Jeep. My phone will be good.

I’m trying to upload a vidjya for you guys but my phone service has depleted significantly.

I feel safe, but this is it man. I’m in it.

I’m uploading the video again. This time a shorter clip and without sound which really takes some of the effect away.

Also, I just got the notification it was downgraded to a category 1.

Woot!

My power didn't come back on until the 11th. Now that this is over I think its solidified I need to invest in a generator and wire it into my house. 0 storm damage or flooding but I'm on a really crappy power grid.

I don't know anything about Generator brands but I'm thinking either a small Generac or Honda. 7000w-8000w range.

Do you have a permanent backup option or a portable generator that's plug and go?

I want to go the portable generator route but have an electrician wire it in so its a single plug from the genny to my garage. Spending day looking at options. Honda's and nonportable generac are expensive AF.
