What is the longest you have gone without sleep and why?

Always wondered this, its interesting to hear the limits the human body can cope with. I know in fatal insomnia cases patients last about 5 months to a year with literally no sleep until they eventually develop dementia and die, always beena fear of mine.

For me it was 7 days and 7 nights when I was an addict. Went fully schizophrenic hearing voices, seeing lynch mobs, police and surveillance was everywhere, I didnt know where I was half the time and was fully detached from reality, like out of body. It got so bad that I was actually relieved when the police finally knocked on the door to arrest me. Thank fuk for many years clean

Whats you guys longest experience? I dont mean "I havent slept in a week because of the kids" where in reality you've had an hour here and there. I mean a full stint, zero hours of sleep, no naps, fully conscious...

Stayed awake for multiple days going through my manic phase intentionally. I was convinced there was evil in my house and I would stay out all day, keep to myself in my room at night. I was also convinced I was descended from Hercules and was receiving messages from the Greek gods, became obsessed with doing pull-ups. I would do 100 at least every single day for weeks. Started to think of coffee as poison. Drank wine all day. Thought about how to find a wild animal to kill it for its skin and wear it like the Nemean lion. When I closed my eyes I would see black and red visions of all kinds of crazy shiet. It was fun but I don't think I'll ever do it again.

Longest shift was 45 hours but regularly work 30+ hours without sleeping.

Many times have pulled multiple 30+ hour shifts with 2-4 hours in between.

One of theschoolsin the army. lost count of the sunsets after 2 or 3. Maybe 4. It stopped mattering to me. (All that mattered was small things like making it to next chow time or next evolution phase). My class consensus put it around 4.5 days. In the military, you HAVE to get something like 4 hours every 7 days (or something close to that) or you'll literally go crazy. One or two guys temporarily lost their marbles because of SleepDep

The last time I was manic, I slept once for three hours in a 7 day period of time. So I stayed up for three and a half days, slept for three hours, then stayed up for another three and a half days.

48 hours working on papers in college. Only intended to stay up 30ish but the first night I couldn't sleep due to anxiety and went to the library to get started. Can't believe how much I procrastinated and how well I did. 3.8 GPA. Shows how worthless liberal arts degrees really are.

Hey man, usual story started on the green around 14, had moved on to heavier stuff around 16 and was several ongoing and alternating addictions until I was around 22? So about 5 years ago. Was a heavy intravenous stimulant user as well as the special k. Was also an alcoholic for a couple of years. Strangley I did uses heroin several times (injected) and never really got hooked. It wasnt really my thing.

Got clean with many relapses and difficulties and still struggle with the alcohol side of things sometimes but doing better now.

Sleep deprivation is unfortunately the most prominent side effect of heavy stimulant use. Did many 2, 3, 4 and 5 day stints. There were years where I probably only slept on about 30% of nights. Having a great deal of experience of insomnia both substance induced and regular and with the psychosis that goes with it, just wanted to hear other people's experiences

Will rep when on my laptop (for some reason can't on my phone)

had 2 all nighters in a row after a music festival where i did too much stuff lol.

had insomnia and weird brain zaps that kept me up. on the 3rd night i slept maybe 2 hours. so 2 hours over a 3 night span. was maybe the worst i ever felt. i thought my brain was broken lmao. even went to a pharmacy and told the guy to give me anything and everything that could help.

strange because i slept fine at night during the actual festival.

havent done "Stuff" since then.

Once when I got really sick with mono I stayed up for straight up around a week straight. I couldn’t sleep because my throat was so swollen that every time I would swallow my saliva (which you actually do like every 30 seconds or smth and I never noticed) the stabbing pain was so severe that it was impossible to get a wink.

I was soooo fukked up. I also started having kind of hallucinations or more accurately visions, like dreaming while awake or something. I had this impression for awhile that I was a soldier defending nagorno-karabakh against azeris, interestingly enough considering the recent news regarding that region. But I had gone hiking there the previous summer so it makes sense kinda.

Overall really bad times, ended up being hospitalized for 4 days once I finally decided to go there despite having questionable insurance but it all ended up ok
