life doesn’t feel real. time is going by so quickly

every week feels like a few minutes have passed. I talk to people they seem like dream creatures. feels like I’m watching a movie and I’m aware that I’m in the theatre

I used to be in the moment but every few days I start to realize I’m just doing meaningless tasks. everyone is just an animal wearing clothes and looking at glass or plastic and making noises

i think its because we all have less 'landmark' moments in our lives that we've been experiencing.

less memorable events on a weekly basis

Since Trump got in its been fast. I can only imagine the Democrats and elite have a time machine to speed up day to day life so his presidency ends fast

the less memories you make, the more time you waste rotting/miscing, the faster time goes by. It's almost 2021. What did you do this year that you can look back on?

Well that's what happens when you have a 9 to 5. Week goes by fast, you have no time to do the things you enjoy.

I'm planning on leaving the grind, not sure when. Worst case scenario I buy a cheap ass house and work a part time job so I can do what I want in my spare time. Not waiting till 55 to finally enjoy life.

Yes, went from a season feeling like about a month to a week feeling more like a day or two.

For whatever reason the weekend registers more as a "marker". So 8 day months?

Weekends go by silly fast. 2 days is nothing, you can't really do anything productive or not. Even when I get up at 8am it still goes by fast. If you ask me, the weekend is for boomers. All they do is fish, tend to their gardens, knit, golf, etc.

I'd like to work 4 10s or 3 12s. That way I can have weekend getaways and no need to ask for permission. For me a flight to Canada is less than 2 hours. Florida is a 4 hour flight. Cali is about 6 hours. Cancun Mexico is about 4 hours. Imagine leaving the office Thursday at 5 and being in Cancun Thursday night. All day Friday, all day Saturday, then you fly back Sunday morning. Or I can drive somewhere local about 2-3 hours out.

That's why the year went by so fast. It's just 1 blur with the same thing happening each day. You gotta make memories.

Bruh I've been making memories the whole time that isn't what is causing it. The timeline has felt off and faster since 2015-2016

Memories like what? Going to the bar or club isn't memories. You've been complaining about the same thing over and over again.

Exactly. When you do the same thing over and over it goes by fast. I bet if you went to a new city or new country things would be hella slow.

Most people don't do anything with their lives outside of the typical 1 week vacation. No hobbies, most of the time it's rotting or hitting the bars every weekend.

When you are young a year represents a huge portion of your life and so weeks and days represent large chunks of time and everything feels slow

When you are old a year represents a tiny portion of your life and so weeks and days blur past as small portions of time and everything feels fast

...and subsequently the hours that use to feel like they took days are now replaced with yearly quarters that feel like they slip by like seconds

None of this really matters. In a few hours, no one will even care about this thread. In 100 years, no one will care what the people in this thread did during their lives.

The best way I've ever seen it explained is this.

Between birth and 1 year old 1 year is 100% of your life. Each year that passes 1 year is less and less a significant portion of your life. That's why childhood and teenage years have a lot of memories because it each year was still a big part of your life.

Then you reach mid twenties and thirties and it's just another year of doing the same chit usually. Most people don't do anything except work and gym M-F as opposed to when you were a kid always doing something after school.

Probably 90% of people I know have no legit hobbies. Just lifting and video games.

Time felt "normal" on Aug 30 and sept 1st.

Everyone around me said the same thing, without me initiating the topic.

It felt like time did back in the 90s.
